Economically more moderate, less cronyist (which is going to mean advocating for drastically simpler economic regulations), less hawkish, less pandering to identity politics, more friendly to the second amendment - which can be done as easily as just pushing for greater efficiency and accountability in existing institutions designed to enforce existing gun control legislation.

The dems can benefit tremendously by taking on police unions in the same way the republicans have taken on other public sector unions, and stop pandering to teacher's unions, reaching across the aisle to combat the quasi-monopoly of neighborhood schooling and superfluous education department bureaucracy (and reallocating the saved money directly to schools and teachers), as the status quo with respect to neighborhood schooling lends fuel to the firestorm of allegations from the right that dems are crypto-segregationists.

More moderate. Especially on SJW nonsense, which was the final straw for me with Hillary (well, that and her batshit insane idea to backdoor-ban guns by letting people sue gunmakers for making guns, something that Bernie openly scoffed at to his eternal credit)

If they move left, I don't think they can win. Not enough people are excited about far left politics and hatred of Trump will only get the crazies out to the polls anyways. Most people would sit out

"Far left" policies are extremely popular. Legalize weed, having healthcare, environmental regulations, livable full time wages. They just stopped pushing those to talk crap about russia and shaming white people.

Evangelicals aside, Neocons are surprisingly "liberal."

The only things they care about are multinational profits, war profiteering, and the defense of Israel.

Those points aside, they'll really get behind anything - and since the zeitgeist is liberal, they'll go with it.
