Current Events > Statistics help: metric for smoothness?

I have a poor statistics/math background and I'm wondering if anyone can help point me in the right direction here. Basically I have a bunch of information about the position of objects over time (about 60 samples per object). I'd like a way to quantify the 'smoothness' of this motion to help filter out bad data. I'm expecting the objects to move at a fairly constant speed, but there are some false detections that make it look like the object jumps a large distance between samples. Thanks in advance.
