Most I ever spent personally was around $600. I don't think I'd even go up to $1000 at this point. Maybe $800 or so is my limit. Unless you do some intense gaming or like, CAD simulations it's not really worth it IMO, computers nowadays are very good.

I remember our old family computer like 20 years ago cost like $2000. I don't know why my dad got such an expensive one, even the expensive stuff at that time was still shit

The "best" laptop, objectively speaking in terms of specs, is probably really unwieldy and terrible at being an actual laptop

Heh...

I think all said and done my current desktop ended up being around $13,000 to $14,000

Id never spend nearly that much again. But its kind of singular in its usage and design. Most of which is Because I could.

Are you including peripherals?

Yes. Dropping that it would bring it down to just over $10,000 or so for the Tower and its contents.

...How?

Did you buy a server?

I find it weird that a guy who often complains about his financial problems has 17 cats and buys computers that are the price of a new-ish sedan

I don't recall, the PC I built was under $1000 but that included everything. When I quit PC gaming I switched to this laptop. Cost like $400-ish that I've been using for at least 8 years now. I don't like to spend lots of money in one spot.

Its almost like having a year where I missed over a 3rd of my work time can cause financial problems I didnt have before...

I think his line of thinking is that if you didn't have a lot of cats or a super pricy PC, you wouldn't have had financial issues even if you lost time at work.

I don't really care either way

$300 for a basic-ass word processing bill paying machine.

Probably up to $1,200 for a decent workstation for music and video editing. Nothing like high-end graphics, just visuals and the sort.

I spent about $4,000 on a notebook around a decade ago, but I needed it for its portability as much as its power. Although, that's honestly way more than I'd ever liked to have spent. I can't see myself doing that again, the most I'd spend on a notebook nowadays is like $200. Desktop is harder to say, I just buy parts whenever I need them. From scratch I used to think $600 would be enough for something decent, but that's almost impossible now with the fucked up GPU market.

Technically I suppose I've "spent" 1000+ on a computer as when I was young and dumb I decided to get a loan out for a PC that cost 800 and certainly wasn't worth the cash. Of course the interest and all that went higher as I missed payments, After several years the PC died and now all I'm left with is a debt I need to pay off.
