Nope the lock them. I remember people asking this when that CE user whose wife cheated on him killed himself. The answer is they lock it and you can come back if you send proof you didn't kill yourself and are mentally stable iirc.

The policy is to suspend the account of a user threatening suicide for an administrator to review. At that point their account is blocked and they are given a message with some information about the suicide hotline number I believe. I haven't seen the entire process myself as that part is handled entirely by the admins. Their account isn't banned.

However the reason the accounts are blocked is to prevent users who are not remotely qualified to handle such serious events from potentially egging them on or triggering them further and causing more harm than good.

Having dealt with trying to talk a friend out of committing suicide to fail back on a MGS fansite I helped run I fully support the current process on GameFAQs to suspend users because there really isn't any other way for a site like this to handle such a thing.

While yes it's partially a 'legal ass-covering', I also on a personal basis believe users themselves shouldn't have to deal with the guilt or responsibility if a user does ultimately decide to kill themselves due to failing to talk them out of it on a video game website, so it protects them from that as well.

Let me get this straight.

If a hypothetical user posted a hypothetical message where he or she said "I am very lonely, I need someone to hear me out, if somebody doesn't respond to this message or reach me out I will (insert horrible tragic thing here) to myself", the gamefaqs reaction would be "let's ban or lock that account, so the user can't get any responses or people reaching out >:) " ?

That sounds like a cartoon villain thing to do.

I mean, he's not wrong. The way GameFAQs handles suicide prevention is pretty scummy. They delete the thread and ban the person. It stinks of a site that doesn't give a shit and is only trying to protect their own ass.

there's the garden variety "I don't give a shit" and then there's the "this guy will probably off himself after I ban/lock his account, let's do that LOL" kind of evil. This case is the latter

your post stinks of regurgitated contrition posed to sound edgy towards a policy that's handled as such to pretect you from feeling responsible if the suicidal person in question ignores all "help" and commits suicide anyways. I don't know. There was actually a CEgal who said she was gonna kill herself and I wish I followed up but don't follow the CEgal stuff here. She might be back here posting. Someone made a topic about it and the CEgals have there own click and was like they confirmed she was alive. I didn't follow up but she might still be here.

I'm not trying to sound edgy or anything else. I'm someone who suffers from depression and I made the mistake of talking about it one time on GameFAQs. My thread was instantly deleted and I didn't get my account back for days. I did get a nice message about them forwarding my information to the cops. So yeah, I think GameFAQs policy is pretty scummy in the way that it handles these threads.

Did Gamefaqs call the cops on you? You for sure talked to them based directly on a topic you made on Gamefaqs? I refuse to pass judgement until these questions are answered.
Wait for all the FAQs, I say.
