That doesn't really go against what I said. If your talking pure numbers in regards to an active community then again who cares whose behind the character.

If you meant more demographics expand the different types of communities within the game than that seems off topic when the OPs premise was that gamers just play games.

I don't know if I've ever seen a "normal" response to women playing video games. It's either extreme white knighting or extreme misogyny (redpill/incel type shit).

What's even the difference? Just play the damn game. If it's team based and the chick player sucks, rag on her for that if you want to. Not just because she's a woman. Plenty of dudes are shitty at games too.

In my experience it's not a big deal if you don't bring attention to the fact that you're a girl. But I have met some really bitchy women that think they can be assholes just because they're "girl gamers" and guys will put up with it.

In general the harrassment isn't much worse than elsewhere online non-gaming related.

The point is that if girls start playing a game, that means you have a new community which means you have the potential for more numbers, period.

It's a shame that Gamergate didn't drive out any of these fake gamers. A toxic subset were even empowered by it, which is a bummer.
