I got a ticket for a concert nearby that starts at 7:30, so in a few hours and I'm feeling a bit nervous. How long does these things last, by the way?

you got the concert ticket so might as well go. But tbh going to concerts and like amusement parks are the only two things on earth I'd feel weird about going alone lmao

Like movies, eating at restaurants by myself i don't give a shit i do it all the time. Going to concerts alone just seems sad as hell

It was kind of a last minute decision because I've never been to a concert before. I saw that it would feature a bunch of groups that I like, they were performing at a place really close by, so I figured, sure. I should go to, at least, one.

Yes. It is fun, especially if you are open to meeting new people.

I have gone to several shows alone. I have not regretted it once.

As a 34 year old that likes indy music and living in Appalachia, with no kids and a wife, it is hard to find people to see weird acts a state away with. So I just started going to shows alone.

Best experience was driving to DC for a night to see Courtney Barnett and Chastity Belt. It was at Club 930, and I had a ton of fun. I got to chat a few with the bass player from Chastity Belt, which was rad.

I drove to Richmond last spring for a show at some little art gallery. It was sucha cool venue! I drank Irish Car bombs at the Gwar Bar on that trip to and was alnost too drunk to walk back to the hotel.

I saw Godspeed You Black Emperor at some old library in Pittsburgh! No regrets! I went to the mountains to hike last summer and met a chick that was at the same show at a bar!

Just be open to the experience. You already have things in common with the other people there. Have a brew or two to loosen up, if you need to.

for the record, if it's smaller acts/venues and/or local bands that's way less weird since it's a more social environment. Going to see an arena show by ones self to me seems depressing

Imagine not seeing a great performance because your friends wimp out.

And if you're not a weirdo shut-in, you can even make friends at concerts by talking to the people sitting next to you!

nah man believe me the people standing next to you hate you for talking to them and are annoyed you ruined their night by selfishly interjecting your loneliness on them

I know so few people who enjoy the music I enjoy. I'm not about to buy someone else a ticket or pressure someone into going with me, especially if I have to divide my attention between the concert and being a friend to someone who may not really want to be there, and who will be a little lost even if they were enjoying themselves.

If I want to see something and it's not a social engagement, I go alone. Unlike the cinema, you won't be the only one. Make some new friends.

i go to concerts by myself pretty often. i actually prefer it because there's nobody else to coordinate with and i hate when my friends chit-chat with me during a concert. i'm there to hear the music, not to talk to you. we can chat after the show thanks.

while you're waiting on the show to start just browse your phone or people watch.

depends on the act, but most shows end by 11 or 12 in my experience.

I'm not sure if it's an arena but the Cellairis Amphitheatre seems to be a seemingly known little spot. It look like I may or may not have to sit on the ground, which is off to a great start :/

lots of outdoor amphitheaters that have lawns will allow you to bring in a blanket to sit on. and many allow you to bring an empty or sealed bottle of water. check the venue's policy/FAQ page and see what's allowed.

I should also note that I'm not necessarily worried about the social stigma of going to a place alone. I'm somewhat glad my friends turned down my offer. I have a hard enough time trying to coordinate with them going anywhere else.

I'm more concerned with just the general saftey of it all. More and more people keep telling me to "be careful" while I'm out there and my mom spent all last night ragging on about me going somewhere like that alone. It's all just been making me nervous.

in that regard, you'll be fine. the crowd at Pixies/Weezer won't be rough and it's a public enough place that you likely won't get jumped/robbed/etc.

i've been to over 150 concerts in my day and never had any sort of "safety" problems that weren't the result of my own substance intake.

the biggest thing to worry about will be intoxicated drivers on the way out of the venue / on the way home.

You should likely be fine, safety wise, depending on who you are seeing. Very few ones that might be actually dangerous (and just keep an eye on your drink, etc.)

That was great! I had a fun time. All three bands we're a blast to watch, but Weezer was just so much hype. They saved them for last.
During their entire set, everyone was standing up, singing along to every single song. I was so amped up.

Now the hard part is all the traffic trying to get out.

I think it's annoying that it's like you're supposed to sing along to prove to everyone around you that you know the music. I want to hear Rivers if I'm going to see Weezer. Last night I wanted to hear Claudio. I only sing along at like the big anthem parts.

I mean, it's just fun. Singing songs is fun. It's safe to assume most everyone there like Weezer, so singing a song along with Weezer is a no brainier. The band themselves even actively encouraged it.

At certain points, sure. But this thing everyone does now of screaming every lyric is based on proving that you're a real fan, which is annoying. Like last night these squares in front of me clearly didn't know the music until they played Blood Red Summer, fuckin squares. I could tell in their body language though, not because they weren't singing.

Anyways I'm just letting off steam, been to many concerts over the years so I've seen it all, glad you enjoyed it.

This is the only think I don't like about concerts. Totally fine with singing along, but singing along does not mean shouting along right into the ears of the person in front of you, or singing very loudly, over the artist, during a quiet part... dumb fans gonna dumb.

In terms of a good crowd, that knew all the words, knew how and when to sing, get volume and tone and all that just right to actually enhance the experience instead of detract from it, the best show I've ever been to was on Motion City Soundtrack's 10 year anniversary tour for Commit This To Memory. Everyone in that crowd was fantastic.

I've been to a few by myself and had a great time each time.

Concerts, well, towns, usually have curfews or whatever you wanna call it for shows. Usually 11, maybe 12, some places 10.

I'm driving 6 hours to a concert Tuesday and couldn't be more excited.

Few of the shows I went to alone I had friends that liked the performer but I don't think they wanted it to be known or to be around the typical fan of that performer. Never bothered me, saw some bad ass people and had great times.
