If I get approved, my bank will let me borrow a minimum of $7,500. I currently have a few vehicles in mind, but I'm not sure what the interest rates would look like on top of the payments.

- 2013 Jeep Compass with 105,000 miles for $9,300

-2015 Nissan Altima with 27,000 miles for 10,000

-2012 Jeep Liberty with 150,000 for $8,000

-2012 Chevy Malibu with 80,000 for $9,000

There are some with similar and lower prices but they're a bit older.

Decide what the car is for, long drives vs getting from home to work and back. Fuel economy is also something you want to look at. And if you are looking for a cheap car, don't be afraid to check out police auctions.

Unfortunately my car needs repairs that may be worth more than the actual car, and I'm saving my money so I can move out. I'd rather not have to take this route, but I need to be able to get to work.

For so many reasons, the Nissan is the best one out of those you listed. I would never buy a Chevy or a Jeep.

my know-nothing ass says the Altima seems the most reasonably priced

4 years old and only 27000 miles is pretty great

Yeah the Nissan is really nice. The only thing is that it has a rebuilt title with prior damage. It was repaired but I'm not sure if it would have any influence over the interest rates.

Out of those choices easily the Altima. Least miles (by a shit ton) and they're reliable. Had my 05 until 2016 with 195,000 miles on it until some jack ass hit me and totaled it

I was wondering why it was priced so cheap
that tells ya

so if you get it, you just have to keep in mind that it's a rebuilt title
i think that lowers the value and raises your insurance prices

Can't you just rent a car or something?

I mean there's two sides to this
-buy old car, might have "problems" & repairing said problems might cost a lot in the long run and this isn't even talking about paying back the bank for the loans and stuff
-I'm aware of the fact that renting can be expensive but at least you're less likely to encounter problems with it.

No, renting is... expensive dude. Several hundred dollars a week expensive.

You'd be far better off just using Lyft or public transportation at that point.

Renting should be absolutely out of the question. Maybe you mean lease, but you'll go bankrupt renting for even a month.

renting is ludicrously expensive

stick to public transport until you can put down decent cash for one of these

the smaller the loan you have to take, the better

this is nbd if the damage was fire or water

but a very big deal if there's frame damage

ask

i drive a salvage title car that was stolen and 'totaled' by insurance, then later found and sold on a new title. nothing wrong with it, but i wont be able to sell it

All it said was rear end damage. I'm not sure hiw much damage it took, but they fixed it up pretty well.

Used car loan rates should be like 3.5-5% if you have decent credit.

I would recommend avoiding rebuilt vehicles unless you actually know what to look for. i tend to be a bit more lenient with body on frame but all the cars you listed were unibody. even a rear end collision can give you frame damage and if it is not repaired properly the car isn't even worth $3k.

Go through TrueCar or CarGurus.

See what the dealer will take for a trade in on your car, which will apply to the cost of the new one. Get financed through a credit union. I am financing a 2004 Titan right now that only had 80k on it and is in near-perfect condition. I have a 36 month finance, but I'll probably have it completely paid off in the next couple months after buying it a few weeks ago. Interest is only 4.45%.

Ask to see the CarFax, any frame damage, if any previous owners were smokers, and take it to get independently inspected by a mechanic to make sure you aren't getting fucked by any obvious problems the dealer isn't telling you about.

Also, negotiate. My titan was supposed to be 9800 plus TTL and I got it down to 9500 total and got them to take my beat up trade for 2500.
