Which ones are worth using based on your own experience or that of your friends and family? Some say you'll get different results (about your ancestry) depending on the service you use ...

Then does it matter which one you use?
It seems to be just a general thing anyway.

different results? no. this depends on the specificity of the test. the basic indicators would be the same.

as for the list, the first three seem the best

note: I am a genealogist by hobby and am in a few chatrooms that discuss testing sometimes and those are the ones that are mentioned most often in a positive light

WTF, after all the news of them abusing your data, you still want to give it to them?! Don't.

Well I didn't see too many stories about them abusing your data ... unless you mean that Golden State Killer thing.

Thanks norenxaq; yes those three definitely seem to be the most well-known or popular. I read that 1 in 25 Americans (4%) have already had their DNA analyzed so "why not".

What are they going to do? Create clones of me? Woohoo!

Hospitals already send their patients DNA in to test for certain things; it's a little more difficult to get reports back from them though.

With the DNA testing services, the only real scam I can think of is if they don't actually analyze your individual DNA and generate false/generic reports. If they sell or otherwise broadcast your DNA/information ... "whatever"

"More than 92 million accounts from the genealogy and DNA testing service MyHeritage were found on a private server"

OK, I won't be using them. They seemed a little "fishy" anyway based on the ads I was seeing for them.

Ancestry and 23 both seem ok ... there's also this newer one called Veritas Genetics and their "myGenome" product. Their kit is $999 ... maybe I should wait for a price reduction or just go with another one for now.
