Right now I'm working at a collision center for a major auto dealership group. I get to evaluate vehicles from the bottom up in terms of what it would cost to restore it to working order (or perfection, if you really want it). The staff here is small and laid back, and we have a lot of freedom to do anything we want as long as we get the work done. No real customer service or retail shit, just a bunch of people working on cars. I even have relative freedom with my computer - two monitors, a bitchin' workflow system that has mobile apps, and all sorts of other industry goodies. If I wanted to, I could restore a project car here top to bottom without it ever leaving the lot (except for serious mechanical issues).

I'm in heaven.

I remember working that position for 2 years. Obviously I hated it because it wasn't my field of choice, nor anything to do with my degree, but it was a job

Taught me a shit ton of things though.

And its fun, because these days I can still give hail damage quotes and estimates of damages to friends and whatnot, even though I work as a Behavioral Therapist now

Yep. Honestly, the opportunity was there for a full time job so I took it. I remember being in this local cigar shop with my dad, and the collisions owner came in. Somehow got to talking about jobs, and told me there was an opening. Literally had a briefcase full of resumes in my car. It was perfect timing.

But I had majored in something more having to do with mental health, so yeah, definitely a shift lol

Nice. About two years I was working as a retail cashier at Home Depot, and one of the in-store contractors selling local HVAC stuff scored me an interview at a Ford dealership as a service cashier. It was all very informal, no resumes or anything, and the service director basically hired me on the spot.
