This is where all modern western politics has been fought for decades though. Big central government socialism is a given, it's just whether it benefits "me" or "them". And also how digestible the methods are (which is where Nazis were uniquely bad in their marketing).

This is why "the right" can so easily be neocons and nationalists even though they are deeply socialist ideologies. It was never the socialism that was the problem - that's too big of an idea to oppose. It was just "them" getting benefits and not "me". (It also doesn't matter who actually benefits, just what the rhetoric claims.) Alt-right just means that you have an unsavory definition of "me" and "them". That's all there is to it.

Or (and this is the key innovation of modern nationalism) pretend anyone who says that is lying and was paid to antagonize you. This way you can denounce socialism in the same breath that you praise it, and just offload the cognitive dissonance onto the conspiracy. If someone was paid to shut you up it's impossible that you're wrong.
