You are Sebastian Williams. You've recently received your trainer's license and are on route to Professor Root's lab in Scale City to receive your pokedex and starter pokemon. Most trainers begin their journey alone, but you're joined by your childhood pet, Pumpkaboo. You first met Pumpkaboo on your parents' farm in Pitch Town. Pitch Town is just north of Victory Road and the Pokemon League, so strong trainers are often making their way through your parents farm to purchase food and drink. When you were eight a trainer traded away an Egg for supplies. You watched over that egg intently. Even though the farm was full of pokemon, those were your parents, but whatever hatched from this egg was yours. Pumpkaboo has been by your side ever since and wouldn't let you leave without her.

You and Pumpkaboo arrive in Scale City by noon, the bus drops you off a few blocks away from Professor Root's lab. You've been here before for all of your schooling. Some regions send trainers off as young as ten years old, but the Harmo region requires its native trainers to reach the age of sixteen. With your trainer's license in hand your off to pick up one of three pokemon. Professor Root receives his pokemon from his aides and former students, this year his selection includes Cubone, Wimpod, and Cacnea. You already know which Pokemon you're picking.

You and Pumpkaboo enter Professor Root's lab and make your way to the kind old man at the end of the room.
"Sebastian, you've finally arrived. I was afraid you had forgotten." Professor Root says with a jolly laugh as he teases you. "Pumpkaboo, I see you're here too." he says as Pumpkaboo nuzzles his leg.
"Sorry to keep you waiting Professor. We missed the first bus out."
"All that matters is that you're here." the Professor says as he leads you to a nearby table with a single pokeball. "Unfortunately you're the last trainer to arrive and there's only one pokemon left."
"Well I guess it's my lucky day then, because that's the pokemon I wanted."

Which Pokemon did you receive?
A) Cacnea, the grass pokemon
B) Cubone, the ground pokemon
C) Wimpod, the bug water pokemon

B) Cubone, the ground pokemon

You grab the pokeball off the table with a smile on your face, Pumpkaboo looks on in anticipation.
"Come on out, Cubone!" the pokeball opens in your hand, a bright light flashes, Cubone emerges from the pokeball and stands on the table before you.
"Cu, cubone bone." Cubone looks to you excitedly. Pumpkaboo floats onto the table and moves around Cubone. The two pokemon laugh and begin chasing each other around the lab.

Professor Root looks to you and chuckles.
"Well I'm glad that all worked out." he says before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small red tablet.
"Is that what I think it is?" you asks as he places the device in your hands. Professor Root nods his head.
"This right here is the latest model of the pokedex with built in PokeGear apps. You can use it to make phone calls, listen to the radio, and everything else you'd expect from the PokeGear. But of course, its main use is to provide information on the pokemon you come across. Why don't you try it out?" he asks pointing to Cubone and Pumpkaboo. You point the device at your two pokemon, a blue light dings and voice begins to speak.

"Pumpkaboo, the Pumpkin Pokemon. The pumpkin body is inhabited by a spirit trapped in this world. As the sun sets, it becomes restless and active. It is said to carry wandering spirits to the place where they belong so they can move on."
"Huh, that's kind of spooky." you say with a laugh.
"Well whether or not you believe it is up to you, but every pokemon has a legend behind it." Professor Root says as you point the Pokedex at Cubone.
"Cubone, the Lonely Pokemon. The skull it wears on its head is that of its dead mother. According to some, it will evolve when it comes to terms with the pain of her death. At night, it weeps loudly for its dead mother, but those cries only attract its natural enemyMandibuzz." you look to the laughing Cubone and then to the Professor.
"Are you sure this thing is going to help me?"
"It could use a few revisions." he says embarrassed.

Pumpkaboo and Cubone make their way over to you, Pumpkaboo eyeing the pokedex.
"This is it Pumpkaboo. We've finally got a real pokedex." Pumkaboo smiles as she sees her reflection on the screen. You squat down and look Cubone in the eyes. "It all starts here buddy. The three of us are champs in making." Cubone and Pumkaboo let a excited cheer.
"Ah, so you plan on challenging the Pokemon League?" Professor Root asks.
"Of course, isn't that what all trainers do?"
"A majority do, but some set off with dreams of being corrdinators, or peace keepers. Some use their trainer status as field research and pursue a profession in teaching. Tell me Sebastian, what's your dream?" Professor Root asks.
"Truthfully Professor, I haven't thought that far ahead." you say with a laugh. "I don't even know where I'm going next to be honest."
"You're not the first trainer to start his journey this way." Professor Root grins. "Why don't you pull up your map and figure out step one.

You pull out your Pokedex and open the Gear App. You tap the map icon and see the Harmo region.


Where do you want to go first?
A) North to Beat Desert towards Samba Village and Punk town
B) East towards the forest land and Waltz Town
C) South back to Pitch Town
D) West towards Chord Cave and Pasodoble Town

A) North to Beat Desert towards Samba Village and Punk town

You look at the map and decide rather quickly.
"I think heading north is our best bet." you say before checking out your travel options.
"And what lead you to that decision?" Professor Root asks.
"Well I don't feel like like backtracking to Pitch Town, so I'm not heading south,and going east or west means I'm going through some forests or Caves, and I don't think I'm ready for that right now. Going north onto Route 1 South is probably the fastest way to my first badge in Samba Village."
"Well if you're heading towards Samba Village that means you'll be looking to face my old friend Rio Jobim. Rio specializes in water pokemon, so your Cubone might be at a disadvantage, but maybe this would be a good chance to train Pumpkaboo." the Professor informs you.
" A water type gym leader huh?" you look to Cubone and Pumpkaboo." they both look nervous but try to fake a confidence to make you feel more secure in your choice. "We can do this." your pokemon nod in agreement.

"Alright then Professor, it looks like we've made our decision. Thanks again for everything, I'll let you know once we get to Samba Village."
"No need Sebastian. I trust your pokemon will see you through. Good luck on your first gym battle, tell Rio I said hello."
"Will do."

You leave the professor's lab and take the bus stop to the edge of the city. The busses don't go beyond this point, so you'll have to walk through Route 1 South. The eastern side of Route 1 is full of green, but the looking to the west you can see the sands of Beat Desert. You're taking the most straight forward path you can as Route 1 was built with travel in mind, signs point you towards an oasis checkpoint .

It's been about three hours since you've left Scale City, You arrive at the oasis and decide to take a quick rest. You place your belongings down and let Cubone and Pumpkaboo out for some relaxation. However your relaxation is interrupted by something rummaging through you supplies. You pull out your pokedex.
"Shinx, the Flash Pokemon. The extension and contraction of its muscles generates electricity. Its fur glows when it's in trouble."

What do you do?
A) It's time to capture your first pokemon, battle Shinx
B) Scare Shinx off
C) Let Shinx have your bag, no need to start any trouble

Edit:Though there should be plenty of ground types for Plump to ko in the desert, so I don't mind if that wins.

Lol why would we let it keep our stuff? Follow it and find a diverse group of pokemon? Secret?

A) It's time to capture your first pokemon, battle Shinx

"Well it's not exactly the way I imagined meeting my first wild pokemon battle." you look back to find Cubone dozing off. "Damn, Cubone would have type advantage, but he looks so cute sleeping." you think to yourself, the Shinx has yet to notice you. "Pumpkaboo!" Pumpkaboo rushes over to you. "It's showtime girl."
"Boo." Pumpkaboo nods her head and braces herself in an over dramatic fashion. Her body tenses up, she holds her breath and attempts to puff out her chest.
"Pumpkaboo, what are you doing?" the little pumpkin turns to you and shrugs. You laugh at your pokemon. "We have the advantage right now, sneak up behind it and use astonish."

Pumpkaboo gently and quietly floats behind the Shinx, its head still buried in your bag, from the sound it appears to have found a snack. Pumpkaboo takes a deep breath.
"pumpkaaaa..... BOOOOOOO" Pumpkaboo slams into the Shinx from behind. Shinx lets out a scared yelp and tries to run, it fumbles over the backpack straps, its front right leg gets caught in the strap. The Shinx is running around blind. Pumpkaboo follows.The two find themselves in a small puddle of water.
"Pumpkaboo hit him again with astonish!" Pumpkaboo floats over to Shinx once again and prepares to scare it, suddenly your bag burst into flames and Shinx comes out with a vicious fire fang. Pumpkaboo lets out a shriek and falls into the water. Sparks start to form in the mouth of the Shinx, it's fangs lighting up with electricity.
"Pumpkaboo!" you yell as the Shinx lunges forward. Suddenly the Shinx falls to the floor, a bone club having knocked it out of the air. Cubone has awakened.

Cubone walks over to the battle scene and picks up his club. The Shinx is dazed, but all of your pokeball have been burnt to a crisp along with your bag. You hear the sound of someone clapping. You look to find an older woman in her 40's if you had to guess.
"For a second there I really thought you were about to lose." she says with a laugh. "I have to say that was quite the show." she reaches into her pocket and tosses you a pokeball. You look at her in confusion. How long has she been there?
"Well what are you waiting for kid, catch it!" the woman points at Shinx as it begins to stand. You nod your head and toss the pokeball. Shinx is wrapped in a bright light and zapped into the pokeball. It wiggles. Your heart beats in anticipation. It clicks. You've captured your first pokemon. You rush over to Pumpkaboo and pick up the unconscious pokemon.
"You did great out there." you say petting her head. Cubone walks over to you holding Shinx's pokeball.
"You sure have caused us some trouble." you say looking to the remains of your backpack.

The woman walks over to you.
"Looks like you're in a pickle." she says extending her hand to you. "Yoko, Yoko Hertz." she introduces herself.
"Sebastian." you shake her hand. "Thanks for the pokeball, not really sure what I would have done if you hadn't shown up." you say with a laugh.
"Well luckily for you I did." she laughs. "Where exactly were you going if you don't mind me asking?"
"I'm heading to Samba Village for my first gym battle."
"Samba Village huh? That's quite a ways away. You may not make it there before nightfall and this area tends to get pretty cold at night. There's a campsite nearby that I manage. If you'd like you can spend the night there. Or maybe you should go to Scale City and stock up a bit. "

What do you do?
A) Push forward and try to get to Samba Village before nightfall
B) Head to the campsite and rest for the night
C) Head back to Scale City, You need supplies

Backtracking is for lesser mortals, we can stock up again in Samba.

...That said, let's not risk wandering the wilderness alone at night with no supplies.

B) Head to the campsite and rest for the night

"Going back seems like a waste of time, and I don't know if I want to start my journey by making a u-turn. Feels like I'd be admitting defeat." you say with a light chuckle. "How far is this camp of yours?"
"It's about an hours walk from the oasis. Samba Village is still another four to five hours via foot, and the sun will be setting soon."
"Well when you put it that way I'd have to be a real idiot not to go to your camp."

You accompany Yoko back to her campsite. Along the way she tells you about herself. She's a widow, her husband and her used to be scientist in the Unova region, but her husband passed away during a research expedition.
"I couldn't go back to work. I saw him in everything I did. Our research, our lab, our friends. He was gone and the world continued as if he had never existed." Yoko explains. "I had to leave the memories behind, start somewhere fresh."
"So how did you go from science to a camp manager?"
"Well, maybe camp was the wrong word." Yoko laughs. "I guess you could say we're more like a group of travelers with no destination. A bunch of dreamers who can't sleep."

You and Yoko arrive at the camp before nightfall. Yoko tells you to wait and heads to her tent. The desert chill goes down your spine. There's at least 15 other people in the camp. Yoko returns to you with a sleeping bag and some food.
"It's not much, but it'll get you through the trip to Samba Village." she says as the two of you make your way over to a bonfire. She calls over one of the girls sitting by the fire. "Hey Jude!" one of the girls stands up and makes her way over to you. She's a few inches shorter than you, beautiful too.
"Hey Yoko, did you need something?" Jude asks with a smile.
"Jude, this is Sebastian, he'll be staying with us for the night. If you could, be a dear and look after his pokemon. They had a pretty intense battle earlier and could use some rest."
"No problem Yoko." Jude says before looking to you.

There's an awkward silence.Jude looks to you and laughs.
"I don't bite." Jude starts. "My pokemon do, but I don't." you laugh. "Well that's not true, I guess I did technically bite my brother once, but that was years ago. Also I was five. And now I'm rambling. And I can't stop. This is embarrassing." her face turns red. Yoko looks to you and then to Jude.
"Jude, why don't you take Sebastian's pokemon to your tent."
"Oh, right." Jude looks to you nervously. "How do you want to do this?"

What do you do?
A) Hand Jude your pokemon and explore the camp
B) You don't know Jude well enough to hand her your pokemon, go with her to her tent
C) Something about this feels off. Thank Yoko for her help and push through the desert cold to Samba Village

She needs our moral support.
We'll be here a bit. We can see the place later.
Honestly more liking Yoko. But like option 3 says, we don't know these people, and I'm wary why a Shinx on route 1 would know those moves.

Perhaps trained, but not owned, by these people? Use it for this purpose, get all our pokemon, then release Shinx?
But something like that, so close to Scale City? Seems way too risky...but then again...

B) You don't know Jude well enough to hand her your pokemon, go with her to her tent

You want to get to know Jude a little better, and only a fool would trust a stranger with their pokemon.
"Uh, well ya know, Pumpkaboo would probably be really scared if she woke up and I wasn't there. I think it'd be best if I went with you. You know, for emotional support." there's a quick silence. You're more nervous now then you were during your first battle. She laughs.
"Yeah, that's fine. I know I wouldn't trust my pokemon with some stranger. Even if she was cute." Jude laughs.

Jude leads you to her tent. It's pretty messy inside, there's medical supplies scattered on the floor, a pile of medical books in the corner.
"Sorry about the mess, I was doing inventory and a joltik jumped out of my first aid kit." Jude explains.
"Are you scared of bugs?"
"Not so much bugs as I am pokemon..." Jude grows quiet. You laugh, but soon realize Jude wasn't joking.
"Oh, you're serious?"
"Yeah. I've always been scared of them, just stuff that happened as a kid, but I'm getting better. Yoko's really done a lot to help me with my fears. That's actually why I joined her group."
"Well that's cool, but are you really sure you should be examining my pokemon if you're afraid of them?"
"Y-yeah, I mean if Yoko thinks I'm capable of it, then I have to try." she gulps, her hands are shaking.

You let Pumpkaboo and Shinx out of their pokeballs. Pumpkaboo has regained consciousness.
"Hey girl, how are you doing?"
"Pump?" Pumpkaboo says in confusion looking to the confused Shinx to her side. The Shinx looks to you and bares his fangs. Pumpkaboo stands up and stands between the two you.
"Pum, pumpkaboo!" you step between the two.
"It's okay girl. We caught Shinx." you look over to the electric pokemon and let it sniff your hand. It growls but allows you to pet it. Shinx continues to growl but proceeds to lay down.

You look over to Jude and find wide-eyed and shaking. She's whispering something to herself.
"It's okay it's okay it's okay, you got this you got this you got this." Pumpkaboo and Shinx look at her and then to you in confusion.
"This is Jude, she's going to help take care of you two tonight."
"Y-yeah. I just need a favor."
"What's that?"
"I need you to push me towards your pokemon."
"What?"
"Just push me!" Jude yells.

You walk over to Jude and push her towards your pokemon. She lets out a yelp before tensing up. She takes a deep breath.
"Yoko believes in you." she stops shaking and places her hands on Pumpkaboo. She examines Pumpkaboo and places her hand on the spot where Shinx bit her earlier. Pumpkaboo tenses up and lets out a little cry.

"A burn. Sebastian, hand me that sack over there." she says pointing to a sack by her books. You hand it to her. She pulls out a rawst berry and cuts it in half. She hands half the berry to Pumpkaboo and crushes the other in her hands. "Eat that. This is going to feel funny, but it'll sooth the burn." she says before rubbing the berry juice onto Pumpkaboo's burn. Pumpkaboo shivers but quickly settles down and smiles.
"Pumpkaboo!" Pumkaboo's excitement startles Jude. She falls back, you catch her. She closes her eyes and walks towards Shinx.

Jude looks over Shinx and looks back to you angrily.
"What did you do to this poor thing?" you're confused. "I don't know where to start with him. His paws are burnt, he's malnourished, his belly is all scratched and bruised."
"I literally just caught it today, I haven't even been a trainer for 24 hours yet." you explain frantically.
"This poor thing, he was probably abandoned." she pulls a can of food and a bowl from a nearby box. She opens the can and pours it into the bowl for Shinx. Shinx quickly eats the food in front of it.
"He looks like he hasn't eaten for days." Jude notes. before grabbing a tube of ointment from floor. She rubs it on his paws and stomach before wrapping his paws in a bandage. "Where did you catch him?" Jude asks.
"Here on Route 1." you respond.
"Shinx aren't native to this part of the region. "Someone left it here. He's lucky you found him when you did."

You walk over to Shinx and go to pet him, he growls but is too tired to do anything. You pet Shinx until he falls asleep. Jude hands you a tube of ointment. She instructs you to apply it to Shinx's paws at least twice a day for the next couple days.
"His paws should be healed in a couple days, but until then keep him off his feet." Jude says before collapsing onto the floor.
"Are you okay?" you ask concerned.
"Yeah, but being around pokemon this long takes a lot out of me."

What do you do?
A) Thank Jude and let her rest for the night
B) Stay with Jude and get to know her a little more
C) Go find Yoko
D) It's pretty late, time to sleep
