D) It's pretty late, time to sleep

You sit down on the floor, Pumpkaboo sits by your side. You look over to Shinx, he's finished eating and is staring at you and Pumpkaboo. You stare back, Shinx turns his head and lays on its side, its back facing you.
"Guess that'll take some time." you say to yourself.
"Did you say something?" Jude asks as she reposition ls herself to see you better.
"Oh, no, just uh talking to myself." there's an awkward silence.

"So Jude, if you don't mind me aski-?"
"Why would someone who's afraid of pokemon become a Pokmon doctor?"
"I'm guessing you get that question a lot."
"Every day since I was nine." Jude fakes a laugh.
"It's cool if you don't want to talk about it."
"No no, it's a legitimate question." she takes a deep breath. "It started when I was seven. I was at my friends Jane's house and she wanted to play in the woods. We'd been there dozens of times before, but never on our own, our parents wouldn't allow it. My brother usually went with us but he got called out of town due to an epidemic in New Wave City."
" Your brother is a doctor too? " Jude grows quiet.
" Yeah, he was a Pokmon doctor. "

"We went into the woods and lost track of time, we had no idea a storm was coming. It was night time and we were lost in the rain." her voice cracks. "We were tired and scared, all we wanted was to get home. We wandered around for what seemed like hours. Eventually we got too tired to walk and found a cave to wait out the storm. I fell asleep by the entrance, but Jane wandered further into the cave. I woke up to her screams. A search party heard her screaming and found us in the cave. Jane was in critical condition, it was an Ursaring. The Ursaring didn't do anything wrong, just a mother protecting her young."
"What happened to Jane?"
"She lost the use of her legs, partial paralysis in her left arm, her face was unrecognizable. She passed away a few years later." Jude wipes away her tears. "I know that what happened that night was an accident and that we can trust pokemon, but it's hard to look at them and not remember that night."

"As for being a doctor. I loved my brother. He loved pokemon. My brother was in a car accident when I was twelve. Being a doctor is my way of honoring his life and carrying on his mission."

You don't know what to say.
"A year ago I met Yoko, or rather Yoko found me. I was in my first year of med school and things weren't exactly going too well. I was shadowing at a clinic and Yoko came in with her pokemon. Most people can pick up on my fear and they judge me for it, they would belittle me and mock my dreams. But Yoko helped me. She was there for me in a way no one else had ever been. Yoko made me feel at peace. We stayed in touch for a few months and she invited me to stay with her group. At first I planned on finishing school and then coming back to Yoko, but without her around my fear and anxiety got worse. I've been here ever since. "

" Yoko sounds like a good person. "
" She's amazing. " Jude yawns.
" Tired? "
" Yeah, sorry, between traveling out here and helping your pokemon, I'm pretty beat. "
" You guys traveled here today? "
" Yeah, we were heading towards Swing City last week but Yoko turned us around and said we had to head to Samba Village immediately. "
"Any idea why?"
"No, if Yoko said it was important then we have no reason to doubt her."
A few thoughts cross your mind, but maybe now isn't the time.
"That's interesting and I'd love to hear more, but I think I'll let you sleep for the night."
"It was nice meeting you Sebastian."
"Yeah, it was nice meeting you Jude. Goodnight."
"Goodnight." you return your pokemon to their pokeball and leave Jude's tent.

You go back to the bonfire and set up your sleeping bag. It's been an interesting first day. You've started your journey, caught your first pokemon, and come across an interesting group of travelers. What does this adventure hold in store for you? You drift off to sleep.

You wake up early feeling more refreshed than ever. You check the time, it's 5 AM. The sun has yet to rise. Most of the camp is still asleep.

What do you do?
A) Leave for Samba Village
B) Wait around the camp, it'd be rude to leave without saying goodbye
C) See who's awake

...honestly it'd be smartest to leave, but this group is apparently headed that way, and it would be wise, and polite, to stay.

C) See who's awake

You look around the camp and notice youre not the only one awake. Theres two men sitting at a nearby table, ones bald ones not. You walk over to this group and notice theyre cutting up food. One of them notices you.
Youre the kid Yoko brought in yesterday right? the bald man asks. You nod your head.
Sebastian.
Nice to meet you, names Alfred. the bald man starts. Hes Matthew. Wed shake your hand, but were prepping breakfast for the camp.
No worries. Just woke up a little earlier than I thought, figured Id see whos awake. Matthew laughs.
You aint gonna find no one awake round here for another few hours. Whole camp usually sleeps until nine, cept for me and Freddy over here.
Four hours huh? I was really hoping to thank Yoko, but I was thinking about getting a head start on the trip to Samba Village.
What business ya got in Samba? Matthew asks.
Im a trainer, Samba Village is where Ill challenge for my first badge.
A trainer? Were all trainers kid. Alfred says small gray mushroom shaped pokemon makes its way over. You pull out your pokedex.
Foongus, the Mushroom Pokemon. It lures people in with its Pok Ball pattern, then releases poison spores. Why it resembles a Pok Ball is unknown.
A pokedex eh. Havent seen one of those in a while. Matthew says as a large green lizard approaches him holding berries and other fruit.
"Grovyle, the Wood Gecko Pokemon. The leaves growing out of Grovyles body are convenient for camouflaging it from enemies in the forest. This Pokmon is a master at climbing trees in jungles. This Pokmon adeptly flies from branch to branch in trees. In a forest, no Pokmon can ever hope to catch a fleeing Grovyle however fast they may be."
How long have you been a trainer for? Alfred asks as a shadowy figure appears behind him, purple flames surrounding him. He places pots around the flames.
"Chandelure, the Luring Pokemon. It absorbs a spirit, which it then burns. By waving the flames on its arms, it puts its foes into a hypnotic trance.The spirits burned up in its ominous flame lose their way and wander this world forever."
Well about 24 hours at eleven. you joke.
Fresh blood. Matthew jokes. Man, if Yoko brought you here on day one you must be clueless, but I guess thats what all of us were before meeting her.
Be nice boys. Yoko makes her way to the table.
Ya know I was just messin with the kid. Matthew says.
Oh I know. Yoko says before sitting down.

Now Sebastian, be honest with me. Were these boys giving you trouble? Yoko asks jokingly.
No maam.
Please, call me Yoko, maam makes me sound so much older than I am. Yoko blushes.
You dont want to offend the lady. Alfred interjects as he continues cooking. If you do then youll have the lot of us to answer to.
Oh I didnt mean it that way. you say nervously.
No harm done. Yoko says before sniffing the food. I cant wait to taste what you two have cooked up today. Yoko says with a smile. Come on Sebastian, whats say we let them work. Yoko says before leaving the table. You say goodbye to the cooks and follow Yoko back to the bonfire.

Yoko sits down and looks to the stars above.
Are you usually awake at this hour? Yoko asks as you sit down.
No, if anything Im a pretty heavy sleeper, then again Im not used to sleeping on the floor. Yoko laughs.
The first few nights are always the hardest. she replies. Even I have a restless night or two. Yoko says somberly. But, I sleep a little easier knowing those around me are okay. Yoko looks back up towards the sky. She grows quiet. Her eyes close and a smile crosses her face. Its hard out there on your own. you nod your head.
Id be screwed if I hadnt bumped into you yesterday. you reply. Guess it was luck that you guys were heading towards Samba Village. Yoko laughs.
Yeah. Its funny how life turns out sometimes. The smallest decision turns into the biggest coincidence. Yoko continues staring at the stars. The stars are so beautiful, like a dream come true. Dont you agree?
I never really thought it about it that way.
The world is a beautiful place Sebastian. Sometimes we get so lost in our pursuit of our goals and ambitions that we lose sight of the beauty around us. We let our fears of failure blind us from living a life of happiness. Maybe if I had realized this sooner... Yoko stops. Im sorry, sometimes I get lost in my thoughts.
I didnt mind. Its interesting hearing your worldview. The people in your camp seem to have a great respect for you.
And I for them. They saved me just as they believe I saved them.
Well you saved me yesterday, thats for sure.
It makes me happy to hear that. Truthfully I was afraid you were going to push on to Samba Village yesterday. Another life lost to hubris. Yoko looks away to the stars and towards you. So whats the plan from here Sebastian?

You're not sure how to answer her. It's your first day out and you were completely thrown off track by meeting Yoko. Her and the camp have been really helpful and it's nice knowing there's people watching over you, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of finding and testing yourself. Of course you're heading the same way and all you have right now is the contents of your wallet, a sleeping bag, and your pokemon.

"You want to go off on your own." Yoko reads your mind.
"I appreciate what you've done, but I need to explore the world on my own."
"That's perfectly understandable. No one here is here by force, we're together because chance brought us together. Just know that you always have a place with us."
"Well actually I was thinking that I'd stick with the group until we reached Samba Village, since we're going the same way and all."
"Well this is embarrassing." Yoko blushes. "We'd love to have your company."

You enjoy a nice meal with everyone before packing up. Your surprised at how efficiently they clean up, but they've obviously been doing this for some time. You begin to wonder how long everyone has been following Yoko for. Jude seems to be the newest and youngest member, she also has the most trouble packing. You help her with her things and get to know her a little more.

You spend most of the trip talking to Jude. She introduces you to the other members of the camp. You're not sure you've ever met a nicer group of people.

You arrive in Samba Village around 11 AM. It's a colorful little place. Crowds fill the streets dancing and partying, it seems you've arrived during some kind of celebration.

What do you do?
A) No time to waste, head for the gym
B) Check out the festivities
C) Head to the Pokmon Center and get your team checked out
D) Call your mother and let her know you're not dead

You're intrigued by the festivities, but first things first, you need to find a Pokmon Center. You look to the group and open your mouth to speak Yoko wags her finger.
"There's no need to say goodbye, rather until next time." she says before leading her group into the town. Jude hesitates to walk away. You nod your head and exchange smiles before she disappears into crowd.

You pull up your PokeGear app and check out the town map, the Pokmon Center isn't too far. You walk through a lively crowd, they seem to be celebrating something important. You notice that there are many tears among the laughter and dancing.

You arrive at the Pokemon Center and head to the front desk, it's pretty empty. The receptionist asks for your ID. You show her your pokedex.
"First time?" she asks.
"Uhh, officially." you think if Jude.
"Well you have nothing to worry about, we'll have your pokemon in tip top shape in no time. Go ahead and relax, we'll call you on the coms once your team is ready to be picked up."
"Thank you."

You find a seat looking to the outside. Seeing all the families reminds you of your own. Suddenly it hits you like a brick. You were supposed to call your mom once you got your first pokemon. You were so excited that you forgot. You dial your mom's number and take a deep breath, your mom answers before the first dial sounds.
"SEBASTIAN AMADEUS WILLIAMS!" you choke on your own breath.
"Hi mom." you answer nervously.
"DO YOU KNOW HOW WORRIED I WAS?"
"Mom it's only been a day."
"ONLY A DAY, DO YOU KNOW WHAT COULD HAPPEN IN A DAY? LITTLE JENNY DOWN THE BLOCK GOT PREGNANT IN A DAY, AND DON'T GET ME STARTED THAT DEMI GIRL!" you realize you're getting looks from the other trainers and staff. You sink into your seat.
"Mom, you're embarrassing me." you can hear her take a deep breath.
"Good. Maybe next time you'll remember to call me on time."
"I'm sorry, I was just excited to get my first pokemon."
"I should have expected this, your father is the same way. 'Sorry honey, I forgot it was our anniversary, but you should have seen the size of Magikarp.' you men are all the same. "
"Well in dad's defense it was a big Magikarp."
"That's besides the point!" she takes another breath. "Did you get the pokemon you wanted?"
"Yeah, I got lucky and the Cubone was still there."
"That's great sweetie. How about Pumpkaboo? How's she holding up? Is she struggling in the wild? Is she getting along with Cubone? Are you remember to change your underwear?" you laugh.

"Pumpkaboo is doing great. She had her first battle and did great, helped me catch a Shinx. Her and Cubone seem to have fun playing together. And funny story about the underwear, I kind of don't have any."
"What do you mean you don't have any underwear, I packed you twelve pairs. How did you go through twelve pairs of underwear in a day? IS JENNY WITH YOU? YOU'RE NOT READY FOR THAT KIND OF RESPONSIBILITY! "
"It's kind of hard to explain, but there was a fire and all of-"
"A FIRE!? Well at least you're not woth Jenny, that girl is a mess."
"I like Jenny, she was always nice to me."
"Oh I'm sure she was nice to all the boys."
You don't know what to say, but luckily you don't have to say anything. Your name is called through the speakers, your team is ready. "
" Oh well, you know mom, I'd love to continue this conversation but I have to go pick up my team at the Pokmon Center, kloveyoubye! "
" THE POKEMON CENT-" you quickly hang up.

You walk over to the front desk and retrieve your pokemon. Pumpkaboo leaps out of her pokeball and joyfully floats around you.
"I see someone is feeling better!" you laugh as your childhood friend lands in your arms. You notice a troubled look on the nurses face.
"Before you go, I'd like to talk to you about Shinx." she's quite serious. "Your pokemon was in terrible condition."
"I caught it on Route 1. It was digging through my backpack for food. I captured it and saw how bad it was, my friend helped me as best she could. We believe it was abandoned. "
"Shinx aren't native to this part of the region. Your pokedex info shows that you've only been a trainer for less than a day, so I know you couldn't have done that much harm to Shinx in a day." the nurse looks concerned. "That Shinx is in rough shape, all I ask is that you give it the love and care he deserves." you nod your head. "Whoever looked at it before us did a fine job of caring for its wounds, but next time I suggest you get professional help immediately. Your Shinx is healed now, but those paws were in bad shape. Who knows what could have happened if they had made a mistake."
"I'll make sure I get professional help sooner next time."
"Hopefully there won't be a next time." the nurse says sternly. You nod your head. The nurse gives you a reassuring smile. "I think Shinx is in good hands." you thank her and leave the front desk.

Talking to the nurse about Shinx reminds you that you still have no supplies. You leave the Pokemon Center and head towards the PokeMart, luckily it's right across the street. You walk in and feel your wallet crying, you spent the last year working on the farm and at your neighbor's steel mill, at least it's going to good use. You notice that there's a surprising amount of trainers here, it appears there's a sale going on because of the festival.

You buy a new backpack, the one you were using before was just a regular backpack, this one is water proof so that's nice. You stock up on potions and buy a few full heals, you can't buy too many without killing your funds, but you need to be safe, can't always rely on on a random camp and a cute nurse in training to save you. You struggle to pick out food. Pumpkaboo is all about sweets so she's easy to shop for, but you don't really know what to get for Cubone and Shinx, you buy a generic brand and some spices, you'll just have to experiment. Can't forget underwear and socks, you'll miss your comfy loose boxers, but you can't really be picky right now and have to settle for what you can get your hands on. Lastly you buy a dozen pokeballs, you can't be a good trainer if you have nothing to train.

You leave the Pokemart and look at the time, 2 PM. You're in no rush so you decide to check out the festival. The people of Samba Village are extremely welcoming. There's games, dancing, food, my god is there food. You let your pokemon out to enjoy the fesitval. Cubone enjoys traditional carnival games, he seems to especially enjoy using his boneclub to play whack-a-diglett. Shinx stays close to your leg, you offer to pick him up, but he refuses. You try to get Shinx to play games but it seems weary of straying far from you. You momentarily lose Pumpkaboo but eventually find her causing havoc at a nearby cotton candy stand. You apologize to the owner and pay for an obscene amount of cotton candy. A stuffed Pumpkaboo floats gently into your arms for a nap.

As night falls the people of the village line the streets. The festival doesn't seem to be over. You follow a large group to the Village Center, a large fountain of a knight and a Escavalier sits in the middle of the village. The fountain seems to be a tribute of sorts, the towns people surround it with flowers and candles, you notice a picture of an older man at the foot of the fountain. Could it be that you've come to the village during some kind of wake?

You hear music in the distance. It appears that the Village Center is the end of a parade route. Musicians and dancers march down the street, people and pokemon sing and dance through the street as they make their way towards the fountain. At the end of the parade is a single float, above it stands a young man, he resembles the man in the picture at the foot of the fountain. A relative perhaps? Behind the young man is a large lance embedded in stone, it looks ancient yet preserved.

The people of the village cheer loudly for the young man as he steps off the float and kneels before the fountain. The people grow quiet, you notice that many of the people are in tears. You overhear a couple behind you. The young man on the float is named Rio Jobim Jr., he is the son of the man in the picture, the recently deceased Rio Jobim Senior. You recognize the name, Rio was the gym leader of Samba Village. Rio passed away two weeks ago, his son is now accepting the position of gym leader.

You pull up your PokeGear app and check the town map for info. Samba Village was the birthplace of Wagner, one of the Harmo Region's greatest warriors, legend says he helped bring peace to region 1700 years ago. It seems the fountain depicts Wagner with his partner pokemon, Escavalier. The lance behind Rio is supposedly the lance of Wagner himself, one of the legendary weapons of the Harmo Region.

The villagers throw flowers and beads towards Rio Jr. He humbly waves and smiles back to the villagers. However his moment of celebration and mourning is cut short. A black cloud of smoke fills the street. A group of people dressed as gypsy pirates wearing various pokemon masks storm the village and surround Rio and the fountain. The village is on fire. The pirates start sending out pokemon. Rio reaches for his own pokeball. Rio sends out a large blue penguin pokemon.
Empoleon, the Emperor Pokmon. The three horns that extend from its beak attest to its power. The leader has the biggest horns. It swims as fast as a jet boat. The edges of its wings are sharp and can slice apart drifting ice. If anyone were to hurt its pride, it would slash them with wings that can cleave through an ice floe. It avoids unnecessary disputes, but it will decimate anything that threatens its pride."

What do you do?
A) Help Rio, these guys mean trouble
B) Evacuate, you need to get to safety

Either way, wasn't sure which to pick. We are just starting out, but I can't stand evil.

My mind's telling me no, but my body, my body's telling me yeeeees~

A. But bring Shinx in the Pokeball. It's already not quite ready to fight, and we need to protect it.
We should help, but remain mobile and defensive.
Pumps can fly, and distract. Cubone can be pretty useful too. Work together and stay close with Rio.
We ain't losing this one. No fainting! No fainting!

(On a side note, we may need to do this to earn badge the anime way. We ain't beating an Empoleon.)

So honestly, been meaning to ask, can we get specifics on our pokemon?
Like moves, levels, possibly natures?
Also, realizing that Shinx is apparently not in bad shape anymore. I didn't catch that, but I doubt it's ready to fight for us yet.
