I know people who will come to potluck with bomb food, then go to McDonald's because their kid is a picky eater. That's some beta max.

One time a kid came over for thanksgiving and cried until his father bought him kfc.

this.

its mind blowing to see parents fall into this trap. or one i see in my family.....

child: "I'm full" (Child has maybe eaten a 1/4 of his dinner)
Parent; "Okay"

5 minutes later.....

Child: "Can I have a cookie?"
Parent: "Okay"

Me when I'm babysitting....I tell said kid "you didn't eat dinner so you are too full for a cookie" Child knows he doesnt get away with shit if Im in charge.

My nephew seriously has some kind of mental disorder. There's picky, and then there's crazy picky. He's like 8 or something. There is a very, very limited list of food items he will eat. He will eat cinnamon buns. He'll eat french fries, but they have to be juuuust right, not too salty or too little salty. That's about it. That's all I'm aware of that he will eat. That's all I've ever seen him eat.

I've tried to get them to do things differently with him but they claim that this kid will just starve himself if he doesn't eat what he wants. I mean he won't even put up a tantrum or cry or anything, he just won't eat, and he'll be okay with that.

What do you do with a kid like that?

Even the pickiest little turd will eat what's on their plate if they go hungry enough. Just gotta be sure your kid's not so much of a petty shitwad that they try to report you to CPS for denying them an alternate meal to what you're trying to make them eat.

you let them starve.

the kid will eventually get hungry enough to want food. Thats when he gets fed whatever you want to give them. You also can't let the kid have a choice. They can have french fries but only AFTER they eat a real meal. The problem is most parents let their kids dictate dinner time. whether that is meal choice or whether that is allowing them to play on Ipad, watch TV, and take a bite of food every 30 minutes.

You take the ipad away, remove the TV, and make the kids eat if they otherwise wouldn't. its amazing how fast they will eat without entertainment because kids really just want to play 24/7.

But he weighs 60 fucking pounds which is 20 more than my 5 year old. All they feed him is cheetos, chips, and twinkie like pastries along with Mcdicks for supper every night. I feel so bad for this kid. He is going to die of a heart attack before he hits puberty.

Straight up child abuse. There is no other way to put it.

The United states and the western world are legitimately in a child abuse crisis.

Not only is obesity bad for you but the kind of foods that tend to contribute towards obesity tend to have little nutrition.

So you can be overweight and yet still be malnourished. Deficient in key nutrients. Not enough vitamin D, calcium, potassium, whatever.

This is my brothers and mom.
I was raised by my grandparents. I ate what they ate or ate nothing. Mexican, Italian, American. The only time I would get a frozen dinner was if they wanted some super spicy Mexican food with a lot of chili. I always did and loved enchiladas, burritos, tamales, etc. But this was like chili verde made with dynamite. That kind where you can't even be in the same room when they're making it because it's so intense. But that was it. That was the only time I got something different. And I'm glad. I learned to like a lot of different things. I learned to cook a lot of different things as I got older. I'm willing to try different things.

My 3 brothers are 18 to 29 and all live at home with my mom. She and my stepfather spoiled them rotten when it came to food. If one of them doesn't like something then it doesn't get made at all. So to this day, I absolutely shit you not it's still chicken patties/strips/breasts as a sandwich or on salad. Roast chicken. Spaghetti or lasagne only as far as Italian goes. BBQ. Pork chops, meatloaf, sausage with peppers. Carrots, corn or peas. No other veggie. Plain white rice or noodles. Baked or mashed potato.
That's is for the most part.

I know several parents that have done this. Their kids became anorexic and were forced to give them food that they didn't hate. It has nothing to do with kids being stubborn, it has to do with you legitimately being unable to eat disgusting food. Do you not remember what it was like to be a kid, to so strongly hate something that you can not stand it? Don't forget your past, too many parents are detached from their kids. At least try to figure out a meal they can enjoy while also being healthy. Give them new sauces to drown out broccoli if you have to.

Worked for our kids, one night of hunger for the first and a few for the second and they learned. We also of course offer positive reinforcement when they eat everything with dessert, and if they choose not to eat something after trying it we don't shove in their faces all the time. Parenting isn't black and white.

and feeding them twinkies for breakfast isn't the answer. you people seem to be thinking feeding them twinkies for breakfast is better than them starving. it's really not. creating an obese monster is child abuse.

you never cure a disease by giving into the disease.

and who can honestly blame the kids? the parents are weak. Lets consider for a moment two kids in two different households

A - Kid is given a choice between sweets, vegetables, and fruits. The kid will ALWAYS choose the sweets. why? because children are dumb and don't know better. Also sweets are designed to be addictive. In time, they will of course hate the vegetables and fruits and only want sweets. The parents rationalize it with "thats all my child will eat....so its better than starving"....and next thing we know the child is the next start on TLC My big fat life.

B - Kid is never given the choice of sweets but rather.....Tomatoes, Peaches, lettuce, bananas, etc. The child will naturally pick their favorite of the group as that is all they know. They will still retain their individuality all the while eating healthy foods. You can then occasionally reward them with a dessert.

B only works of course if you as the parent aren't shoving their face with sweets every night and aren't an obese person.

same with getting dressed....you don't let a child dress themselves but you might give them a choice between shirt A and shirt B.

in short....remove the ability to let kids fully choose. limit their choices.

I know several parents that have done this. Their kids became anorexic

I highly doubt this, there was a time when the vast majority of kids were forced to eat things they didn't like(vegetables).

I didnt. I just refused and my parents learned to not feed me it, or it goes in the trash.

Either they did what I wanted or I purposely not eat

Thats what I did

I cried when they had healthy food so mom had to drive 15 minutes from the house to get me KFC

I eat whatever I want now. I had chicken nuggets and hot dogs for breakfast!

Realize that people have TASTES. Kids are not required to eat the parents foods. Especially if it's

1) healthy and gross
2) ethnic and in the wrong way.

How old are you?
