7th grade history class. They didn't tell us as it was happening, but when the period ended they had all the seventh graders meet in the common area and explained what happened.

We still went to classes for the rest of the day, but they all just had the TV on and nobody really tried to teach.

Except for music class. We had planned a party for that day and we still had it.

Back from school for the day. Have no plans to go watch TV. Mom yells from TV room "absolutely don't come watch, this is terrible, a plane hit a skyscraper".

Classic mom. Now I'm curious, and check the newspaper. Nothing. Oh well.

Next morning. The newspaper's front page has the twin towers. As in, the front page that's always just ads, with the headlines on page 3. At that point I realized this was the biggest thing that had happened in my lifetime, even if it was so far away.

Found out after - turned on the TV, thought I was watching a movie, then I checked the channel nd realized it wasn't a movie.

I didnt even know what the World Trade Center was at the time >_>. And all of the other local schools got out early but we stayed the whole day so as a kid I was ticked lol.

Then when I got home dad was watching news coverage and actually kinda understood the gravity of it watching it and seeing my dad and older brothers reactions.

Getting ready for work

I was in 9th grade, 2nd period English class. I remember vaguely there being an announcement and then they had us go to 3rd period, and there was talk of them letting us out early. 3rd period for me was Health, and my Health teacher had the news playing on a TV. We just kinda waited around that period for us to be dismissed, I got picked up by my Grandmother.

I got home, and my Mom met me at the door. It was her birthday, and she said "this is the worst birthday I've ever had", and I asked her "Why?", because I just didn't understand what was actually happening or the severity of it. It kinda all went over my head.

To answer TC yeah I did go to school still, everyone was talking about it But since I was late I was the only one who watched it on TV and most of the other kids didnt get the scope of it. We were only in 3rd grade.

I had graduated high school that summer. Was sleeping on the west coast when it happened. My mom came in my room and told me something was happening in NYC so I got up and i think both planes had already hit but I think I saw the buildings fall, live. And then I was home all day posting on the official EverQuest (as in EverQuest.com) forums debating with people with CNN on the tv

English class in my senior year of high school. Teacher got a phone call to turn on the tv and then some of the kids in my class were making "boom!" noises when the plane crashed into the building.

Class. 9th grade English class. I remember a kid running into our class yelling "The towers went down" and my teacher grabbed the TV and we watched the news for the rest of the class.

My 6th grade class in Brooklyn. I remember there was an election in that day (with Michael Bloomberg running for mayor).

The teachers did not tell us anything but the loudspeakers were calling students name and a lot of students were being picked up from school. My mother picked me up around 1pm and told me what happened.

Year after I graduated HS, was working at a drug store and going to a local community college at the time. School hadn't started up yet so I was sleeping late like usual. I didn't see my parents that morning and my 5 minute drive into work, the radio was strange. Like first couple of minutes I was thinking it was a goof. By the time I got to work I started to realize something really did happen.
At work we sold out all our American flags by like 10 AM.

I was in 5th grade. Since we were in NJ, I guess the administration was told not to let us outside in case the terrorists had more planned. We were told the school was spraying for bugs so we couldnt go out for recess that day.

i was a senior in high school, first period JROTC. my class was just getting the supply room inventoried and organized and what not when they announced for the teachers to turn on their tv's. the math room was close so i went and checked it out. saw the first tower smoking and that was it so i went back and said someone tried bombing the WTC again then we went back to what we were doing. didn't really find out the scale of things till next period when we saw tower 2 go down live. i was a bit irritated at the freshman running around saying "the explosion was so cool!" or "yay we're at war!". really nothing else got done that day. all my classes just let us watch the news coverage. my only break from it was to watch the new episodes of DBZ that toonami was airing that day.
