A friend had all the weapons and I was wondering how, told me about cheat codes on GameFAQS.

I was on GameWinners looking at Super Mario RPG cheats and saw a link to a Shop FAQ on GameFAQs at the bottom. This was probably around 2003-ish? I didn't actually make an account until 2006 tho >_> I literally think I created my account just to say something against a troll on a game board lol

I don't remember the first FAQ/cheat code I came here for, but Star Wars Rogue Leader (GCN) was what got me to create a message boards account.

Final Fantasy VII I bought and played the Japanese version before the AMerican version was released. every week a new faq got updated so I was playing just a lil bit past it till the faq got updated. I beat this game in Japanese.

helped me learn katagana.

never did that again to another game. going week to week was it for me.

years later king of Colosseum II helped me learn hiragana and a lil bit of kanji

This, except I was already on my second or third play through and was looking for revive Aeris codes.

But also in FAQs on other random sites I'd always see something like, "This guide is only permitted to be posted on the following sites: gamefaqs.com..." etc, and seeing this in so many FAQs across the Internet gave the site a degree of legitimacy in a time when fake cheats were really common.

Chrono Cross way back in 2000. I didn't have a computer and hadn't used the internet much. I put Chrono Cross FAQ's into ask Jeeves or something and found this place. More importantly I found the answer I was looking for. Didn't make an account until 2003 when I was asking something about Final Fantasy Anthology on the board.
