People's anger over changing characters is ridiculous. It usually goes something like this;

"Don't change our characters! I can't relate to this new design! Just make new characters for those groups!"
*They make new characters*
"Don't force diversity in you casts! Those characters were obvious just added to pander to those groups!"
*Character is well received by everyone else*
"The character actually is super poorly written and their story doesn't make sense and here is a 52 minute Youtube video telling you why they suck and the earlier characters were perfect"

there have been 2 black batmen.

look up Batwing. 2 men have been Batwing. both of them were black. the original is a guy from Africa that Batman selects to be the representative for africa in his Batman Incorporated program. and then he retires and the son of Lucious Fox takes over as the new Batwing. neither of them are gay though

Batwing isn't Batman, though, so it doesn't count.

I know that, but that isn't good enough for the SJW's who want a black Batman. They literally want Bruce Wayne to be rewritten as a black man, and strip all previous canon from existence.

Luke had about ten minutes training from a geriatric jedi and Anakin literally blew up an entire capital ship, outclassing the entire space force of Naboo, mostly by accident, despite the fact that he was 12 and had never left Tattooine before.

Luke had far more than "ten minutes of training" before his first lightsaber duel (hint - that was at Cloud City). And the first lightsaber duel we see Anakin have was also at the end of the second movie his character was in.

Rey had never wielded a lightsaber IN HER LIFE before she pwned Ben.

In Anakin's first movie, he wins a high speed death race and then blows up a capital ship accidentally that turns the tide in the war against the trade federation because he's literally Force Christ.

Luke is appointed leader of Rogue Squadron, the rebel's top fighter pilots, despite the fact that he has never flown before and never left Tattooine, where he blows up the Death Star by guiding a torpedo 80km through a vent into the core with the force (despite the fact that this was before he could even lift up rocks).

At least in Rey's case, she has some justifications. First, she actually was shown to have martial arts experience right off the bat with her bo staff and given that she was a survivalist on Jakku. Second, her fight against Kylo Ren was after Kylo tanked an explosive plasma bolt to the torso, and Kylo was specifically instructed not to kill her (and was aggravating his wound by punching it because he was throwing a tantrum).

I'm not saying she's a good character, but she is absolutely no worse than Luke or Anakin. Especially Anakin.

Seriously, that doesn't really change the fact that a farmboy with zero flying experience showed up at Rebel HQ and they were like, "Okay, so we have this super secret insanely important mission. You seem like just the sort of farmboy we are looking for. Here is one of our important spacecraft. Have fun!" and then he went on to use the force to guide a torpedo 80km down a narrow shaft to blow up the Death Star. Also doesn't change the fact that Anakin was waaaaaaay worse.

'Zero flight experience...'

So, his Incom T-16 Skyhopper, that the Incom T-65 X-Wing was based off of, doesn't count? You know, the one he used to bullseye Womp Rats back home?

You know, the one he used to fly down Beggar's Canyon, racing Biggs Darklighter? He mentioned it a few times.

He even told Han 'I'm not such a bad pilot myself.'

The fact is, you haven't been 'right' about the Oridge Tridge in any way.

So we are just going to gloss over the fact that low altitude vehicles are not interchangeable with space fighters? "Man, Billy can really drive that truck. Let's give him the keys to an F-16 and see what he can do".

Not to mention the fact that Rey is explicitly shown being skilled with a staff weapon in some form of martial art. Why is that experience negligible but a throwaway line about Luke piloting an airspeeder is justification for him to be a literal ace pilot?

darkjedilink posted...

... He still used the force after one road trip worth of training to guide a torpedo down a vent at insane speeds while being fired upon by literally the best pilot in the galaxy. Or how about how he has intergalactic telepathy after training with Yoda? Or how about when he is able to shoot down multiple enemy fighters the first time he's ever sat in a turret?

And seriously, why do you keep pretending Anakin wasn't even worse? Again, won a pod race because he was psychic, disabled an entire army by out classing the entirety of Naboo's best pilots in a strike on the Trade Federation capital ship, gets admitted to the academy despite the entire council saying no and the grandmaster successfully predicting he would destroy them all, and makes a noble woman twice his age fall in love with him. This all happened when he was 11, and a slave with zero training.

Again, I think I need to carify. I'm not saying they are bad characters, I'm saying that Rey is no different from the heroes of the last two trilogies and that's okay because Star Wars has always had poorly written, paper thin characters and it's just nostalgia that blinds people to any other option.

Which, in case you didn't know, is classed as an air speeder. Repulsorlift and everything

As for Rey, do I really need to link to a shit-ton of sources showing how a staff and a sword are not the same?

Do I need a shit ton of sources showing that flight in atmosphere is completely different than out of atmosphere? At least the staff and the lightsaber would both benefit from the same conditioning.

He ALREADY WAS ABLE TO MAKE THAT SHOT. What part of "I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16" do you not fucking understand?

...

Okay, so he could shoot a creature on the surface with an airspeeder at airspeeder speeds (likely with a targetting system), and that somehow means that he could make an impossible shot, by using the force, then guide said torpedo to the core of the station, through about 80km, avoiding all possible debris and blockages, while under fire from literally the most elite pilots in the galaxy and some of the most dangerous defenses, because he believed in himself? Nope, not a Mary Sue at all.

And, I'll ask again, why won't you comment on Anakin? Is it because you know I'm right about that and you have nothing to say?

I won't comment on Anakin because -

-you're wrong about everything you've posted and refuse to back down, doubling down on stupidity
-Anakin is literally fathered by the Force, so his powers make sense in-universe

You still won't even admit that Rey has yet to fail at ANYTHING, but consider Anakin, a guy who lost literally all of his limbs, a Mary Sue.

Except where you pointed out that he wasn't in Rouge Squadron and I apologized and agreed with you.

And Rey is literally being guided by the force and the ghosts of several Jedi masters including Yoda and Obi-Wan. If you are going to resort to 'because the Force' you can make the exact same arguments for every single hero in the entire franchise, including Rey.

Anakin didn't lose all his limbs until the last ten minutes of the third movie he was in, and even then, he actually came back pretty much just as powerful (if less agile). That was literally ten years after the 11 year old Anakin single handedly took down a Trade Federation capital ship, won a pod race because he was psychic, conned his way into the Jedi Academy, and made the queen of another world fall in love with him despite being twice his age. Also, Rey pretty hardcore failed to stop Kylo at the end of The Last Jedi, so ...

Again, I'm not defending Rey so much as pointing out that all the characters are Mary Sues.

Care to link to Rey being guided by Force Ghosts? Wasn't in any of the movies.

Rey has no business being able to fight Kylo in any way, and there is no canon explanation for someone who's never flown ANYTHING to be an expert pilot, and someone who's never used a sword to be an expert lightsaber duelist. There IS in-universe explanations for literally everything you've complained about Anakin and Luke for, though - not the least of which being you don't know a God-damned thing about Star Wars.

In TFA she is guided by visions to find Luke, which also include voice snippets from Yoda and Obi-Wan.

She didn't, though. He was basically mortally wounded and instructed not to kill her. He's also not a very good duelist to begin with, relying mostly on the force.

Again, airspeeder=/space fighter. It doesn't matter how much you don't want it to be true. It's like saying someone who is a good pilot would instantly be able to fly a space shuttle. Oh, and Anakin never had a throwaway line about having an airspeeder back home.

She was a better martial artist than Luke right off the bat.

Yeah, 'The Force did it and the EU says so" are your only reasons, and again, those still fucking apply to Rey.

Who fucking hurt you? You can't have a discussion without flying off the handle? Is Star Wars sacred to you or something? Did Rey kill your family during production of the film? What is your fucking problem that you feel so threatened you have to just start insulting people and ignoring every point anyone makes that disagrees with you.

no, but not because it would be bad for batman to be cast as a black person. but because only light skin contrasts well with the black color of batman's suit

It isn't that you 'disagree.' It's that you're ignorant of what happened in the movies by such a blatant degree, and using that ignorance to form an opinion. When you're then shown you're wrong, you double-down on it.

For example, you still forget that Anakin only won ONE lightsaber duel shown on-screen - he lost his hand in the first one, and was saved by Yoda. He got revenge, then lost AGAIN to Kenobi.

THAT IS NOT A MARY-SUE. MARY-SUE CHARACTERS DON'T LOSE.

Luke was worse - lost to a remote in training, missed most of the TIE's he shot at, failed repeatedly under Yoda's tutelage, lost to Vader and lost a hand in the process, had a crisis of faith, and let himself be manipulated by the Dark Side for most of Return.

THAT IS NOT A MARY-SUE. MARY-SUE CHARACTERS DON'T FAIL.

Name ONE time Rey lost or failed.
