The downstab move made it so easy to pass through areas you've been through before without slowing down, the game was mostly crystal clear about where to go, what to do, etc (unless you missed the lightning magic), the overworld opens incrementally, simultaneously exanpanding its explorability with time and limiting your movement to where you need to be.
