Having the band back together is what makes this case fun.

Also, Maya has officially broken the 5000 line barrier, and Ema pushes Franziska out of the top ten at last. This is the first time in this entire run she hasn't been in the top ten, and on the very last case, to boot.

That actually kinda bugged me about Ema. Did she always like Edgeworth more than Phoenix and I just forgot?

She fangirls over Edgeworth some in 1-5 (I think she even goes so far as to call herself his biggest fan at one point), and she indirectly references him as her preferred style of prosecutor in contrast to Klavier in AJ (saying prosecutors should be more "simmerous" than "glimmerous").

So yeah, that part's not inconsistent.

She did in 1-5 and we never saw Phoenix, Edgeworth, and Ema together again until 6-6.

but edgeworth is also just much more commanding. he's also got that golden boy virtuoso appeal that phoenix lacks (despite being basically the best defense attorney alive)

6-6 Trial Day 1 complete, and rather briskly at that. Only seven non-PW1 segments have had a lower line count. Also, Larry has passed Klavier in line counts. His role on day 2 is considerably smaller than day 1 though, so I'm not sure he'll catch Blackquill and Pearl.

You know, part of me kept thinking there was no way Pierce could be the killer because it was too obvious. I kept expecting a new suspect to emerge on day 2.

That's the main reason I wanted just one more new character to be involved in 6-6. Pierce was so easy that it couldn't have been him. Then you start looking at your other options and it's just like....... well never mind.

Crab is an excellent choice and would probably be mine.

Olga Orly deserves a mention not because she's an amazing character but because it is a legitimate swerve coming off of 1-1, 2-1, and 3-1, in which the only third-party witness is the only possible candidate for murderer if you assume your client is innocent.

The list of characters who I can think of who even make valid red herrings is pretty short

Like I ran through a list of characters and these are all the ones I ever even reasonably felt could be the murderer, but weren't

Morgan Fey
Regina Berry
Adrian Andrews
Desiree Delite
Ernest Amano
Lauren Paups
Colias Palaeno
Hugh O'Connor
Aura Blackquill (not necessarily for the specific murder but she seems like she's going to have killed someone)
Herman Crab
Bonny/Betty de Famme
Beh'leeb Inmee (for Tahrust's murder only)
Inga Khura'in (not for any particular murder, just that you think he's going to be the main antagonist)
Amara Khura'in
Sorin Sprocket

interestingly enough, AA5 has three of the most successful red herrings imo

I'm still kind of amazed Desiree never got even a little bit of suspicion in 3-2 because I initially thought she might be the killer and her alibi is kinda shaky.

But yeah, Adrian's probably the best red herring because of the nature of 2-4.

I thought Desiree was the killer that entire case. It wasn't until a bit after stopping Atmey's Mask de Masque trial that I finally gave up on that theory.

I wouldn't call Morgan a red herring; conspiracy to commit murder makes you a murderer too (and the AA-verse obviously agrees given her fate).

I was also suspicious of Desiree and I'm not sure there's another red herring character I was happier to be wrong about. She and Ron just seem so happy, y'know? Happy couples feel pretty rare in this series.

adrian's a weird one since you find out the truth before the final trial. she's definitely suspect #1 during the course of the monster day 1, of course

desiree and palaeno seem ridiculously suspicious from an AA perspective, but the player character never really gets that suspicious of them, so they're not traditional red herrings

I wasn't really talking from a player character perspective

There's quite a few characters that the player character are suspicious of that were just obviously not the killer - like, I'm not gonna consider Oldbag a red herring

speaking of oldbag, i think you could make the case for penny and sal manella in 1-3. unless you want to include sal in the morgan fey category of willing accomplice?

The list is obviously subjective (it's just characters that I personally entertained the possibility of, really) but personally Penny always seemed to be way too insignificant and Sal way too silly for them to be the killers.

Also I could have taken Morgan Fey out because she is part of the murder plan still but I kinda thought she would straight up be the killer, Ini Miney seems like she's plausibly just a witness and nothing else, she's actually the first like 'oh wow, THAT character is the bad guy?' character in the series.

Silly character can turn out to be serious, though. I guess he isn't as silly as Sal but Yanni Yogi was a gag character at first.

that's perhaps the only time in the series the game convinced me the assistant girl might actually be guilty (along with the excellent Gant trap that leads to an insta-guilty)

I mean it was my first AA game and I didn't know any better yet but still

Athena actually had me wondering for a bit, but I never suspected Ema for a moment. Probably because (a) we'd literally just seen the writers try the same stunt with child Edgeworth and (b) the proposed method of murder is pretty dumb and Gant is obviously slimy as ****.

"There's someone else with a big neon I DID IT sign" is also why I never for a moment suspected Hugh, though I could see why someone might.

I never really suspected Means, but I guess I should have because it was clear the power of friendship was going to win the day in 5-3

maybe it was because of the glitch that made Means's staff appear by mistake

Means is a creepy authority figure who proudly proclaims "The ends justifies the means", while the other suspects are just kids. Hugh becomes a bit more credible as a suspect when it's revealed he's actually 25 or whatever but from the getgo I felt like it was obviously Means. Actually that's one of my complaints about 5-3, that I felt like the killer was so obvious and yet there's a lot of fake drama about who else it's gonna be, so it's interesting to see you felt differently! Probably helps explain why the case worked better for you than me, actually.

AA killers really are disproportionately old authority figures. I think the only one who's even under 20 is Dahlia? Very much unlike reality (though of course, AA doesn't exactly cover "typical" murders, which is fine!).
