Cool sport, but kinda sucks you gotta rent a lane and shit. Guess it's still a metric fuckload cheaper than golf regardless.

It's something to do, but it doesn't do anything for me. I can't get into games like that or pool or darts, so I suck at them. I can play most sports well but I suck at games, and bowling is more of a game. I usually average like 110-120

Not necessarily. You can get a cheap set of clubs and do a 9 hole in a lot of places for 5-10$ at certain times.

In comparison, a single bowling ball of decent quality is easily $150+, and then a single game lasts for 20-30 minutes. Whereas a game of golf can take several hours.

No matter what, a ball and a set of clubs are both one-time costs. And there are both cheap and expensive ways to get clubs and balls. And it's been a while since I bowled, but I remember at least some alleys providing a ball if you didn't have one. When considering the prices for both sports, I'm not really focused on that.

However, I'm surprised to learn that you could golf so cheaply.

Id do up to 8 games a day. 5 to 6 days a week. I was losing quite a bit of weight doing it.

Uh, how exactly. It's not exactly a physically intense activity.

Have you ever bowled 8 games in a day?
Let alone 8 games 6 times a week.

When I bowled, it was usually for 3 to 4 games at a time. I can't recall being even slightly worn out from it. Hell, there were times I'd go for a hike or jog afterwards.

Bowl 8 games by yourself and you'll understand. It makes a huge difference when you bowl with other people. There's a lot more down time. When I bowled on a league it would take roughly 3 hours. That versus bowling 8 games by myself, which would take me a hour to a hour and a half. It's not you feel like you've ran a marathon...it was more like my back would get drenched in sweat.

Definitely a nice light cardio workout. Honestly people that don't bowl a lot are going have really sore wrists or might even have rubbed their skin raw on their thumb.

Your on your feet carrying and throwing a large heavy ball. It does qualify as exercise.

The alley where I bowl league has an all-you-can bowl special during the week. When I was between jobs, I took advantage of it 2 or 3 times a week. I would bowl about 20 games in 2-3 hrs (you can easily bowl a full game in under 10 min if it's just you). I was never winded.

I have a 4-step approach. I just measured my approach and it came to about 11 feet. So let's just put it at 12.5 feet to account for going to the ball return, which is right next to where I start my approach. So that makes a 25 foot round trip. Let's say I don't throw a single strike in 20 games. That's 400 shots (420 max. if I always open the 10th with a spare), which is 10,000 feet total for my shots. Walking less than 2 miles in 2-3 hours really shouldn't wear out someone who is anywhere close to physically fit, even with the added 10+ lbs. for the ball.

For that other person, I use a 14-lb. ball.
