i don't know why it was so divisive

it felt like a standard fare spielberg flick. had its own little flair going, mostly just a fun action movie. it's like a 6 or 7 out of 10 for me, fine, fun while watching, nothing that made it amazing or terrible

I would honestly put it at an 8 for me, just all around fun, and the excessive crazy fanservice kind of made it great for me

I liked it. Was awesome when Tracer and Master Chief cameod in it.

I thought the first challenge in the movie was to drive 88mph with a DeLorean not drive backwards to go back in time.

If you loved the movie you'd enjoy the book. It deviated massively from the book. In fact the puzzles are just completely different. Even the bad guys are different too. How the book started was with Wade in school primarily and he was a poor as f*** kid. There was no massive car race. He didn't meet artemis until much later on, and hell I-Rok wasn't some side kick either. Daito and Shoto don't get met until much later on much less on "friendly terms."

I dunno I thought the movie was decent, but the book was much better and did the 80's justice. The movie did look cooler, but I think it wasn't as cool as the book. In that dance club scene, there's some crazier stuff that happens other than creating a dance floor, and the reason for going there was vastly different. Not to mention that Wade didn't get the Delorean UNTIL the dance scene, whereas he apparently starts with it. Cool nod that they can miniaturize it, because that was explained a bit better in the books. There's a lot more real life action that happens and it gets a lot darker and bleak in the book.

I still think Ready Player One's plot is rather weak, but then again it was Cline's first novel. But I would still highly recommend the book to read if you enjoyed the movie. It's worth the read just so you can see all the differences and there are many.

I've just been on a massive sci-fi other world binge and so far this was the weakest of the four books I've read. Still fun read though. Relatively short too.

It was divisive because apparently a bunch of people that loved a book that was chock-full of 80s and video game references didn't like the fact that the film adaptation was full of video game and 80s references.

Shit book, shittier movie.

It was nonsense with big words and product placement. Almost like any of those preachier family guy or south park episodes.

I saw the movie with a friend who had read the book and then read the wiki later to see the differences.. I felt some changes were good (unplugging the system twice a week), some weren't (the increased friendship solves problems theme).

Overall though, while I enjoyed it, I left feeling kind of mixed. The nostalgia was really awesome, especially seeing things I loved fighting together..but I felt it reinforced the whole "This is OUR hobby" mentality that a few of my friends have grown quite bitter about. Plus, from a suspension of disbelief POV, I kept wondering what kind of bandwith was needed to carry all that data, as well as how the rest of society functioned.
