That word was used as a slur to dehumanize black people long before white people weren't allowed to say it, so I don't think that's where the power behind the word came from...

As far as I'm concerned, the same etiquette mindset for that should apply here.

It's perfectly ok to use the word as a racial slur towards a group of people since that's the definition of the word.

It would not be ok to use that word to describe something else, like apples or bananas or cars.

in South Africa they use the K-word instead of the N-word, but it is equally offensive here.

the big difference is that the black people in south africa do not call eachother by the K-word, and so when anyone uses it all of the reasonable people really do shun them for it.

Feels so juvenile to call it the "n-word".

Can't even mention the word today without fueling someone's agenda and in some places even historical context is pushing it.
