We all know that they worship their Lord Savior Elon.

I think the circlejerk over him is a bit annoying but I don't get the people who hate him.

Like oh wow this guy wants to make affordable electric cars. Fuck him, right?

The hate is a part of a well-funded character assassination attempt. Big oil is funding massive amounts of propaganda on both the left and the right.

The left hates him because of exaggerated and often made-up claims about workplace abuses and safety violations. The right hates him because of profitability and the threat to the automotive status quo which has made a lot of people wealthy.

What 'profitability?'

and when you buy the car they literally give you a schpiel about how it's in beta, how you can't just go to sleep while driving, etc

the only way i could see someone legitimately not knowing is if they are using their friend's car and turn on the autopilot on their own and get in an accident before any of the warnings go off
Have you not been reading every case of Tesla Auto-Pilot related death?

It's called: people will be either "Stupid" about it, or "Willfully Ignorant" about it.
In one ear, out the other. You can give all the long lectures that you want, the new owner will LITERALLY forget it the next day and proceed to do what they want to do.

Bhavesh Patel was spotted by a fellow driver sitting in the passenger seat while his Autopilot was engaged on the M1 near Hemel Hempstead on May 21st, 2017. The Hertfordshire Police note that the car was set to drive at 40 MPH, and that Patel had left the steering wheel and controls unattended, and that there was heavy traffic on the road at the time of the incident.

Patel has pled guilty to the offense, and has been banned from driving for 18 months, and will be required to pay a 1,800 fine, carry out 10 days rehabilitation, and to perform 100 hours of community service. Hertfordshire Police officers testified at his court hearing that he said that what he did was silly, but pointed to his vehicles amazing features when he was interviewed. He reportedly had owned the car for five months at the time of the incident.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/jul/01/tesla-driver-killed-autopilot-self-driving-car-harry-potter
The Tesla driver killed in the first known fatal crash involving a self-driving car may have been watching a Harry Potter movie at the time of the collision in Florida, according to a truck driver involved in the crash.

The truck driver, Frank Baressi, 62, told the Associated Press that the Tesla driver Joshua Brown, 40, was playing Harry Potter on the TV screen during the collision and was driving so fast that he went so fast through my trailer I didnt see him.

...

According to Teslas account of the crash, the cars sensor system, against a bright spring sky, failed to distinguish a large white 18-wheel truck and trailer crossing the highway. In a blogpost, Tesla said the self-driving car attempted to drive full speed under the trailer with the bottom of the trailer impacting the windshield of the Model S.

The top of the vehicle was torn off by the force of the collision, according to a police report in the local Levy County Journal

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tesla-autopilot-crash-utah-fire-truck-driver-elon-musk-bemoans-attention/
South Jordan police said the Tesla Model S was going 60 mph when it slammed into the back of a fire truck stopped at a red light. The car appeared not to brake before impact, police said.

The driver, whom police have not named, was taken to a hospital with a broken foot. The driver of the fire truck suffered whiplash and was not taken to a hospital.

"What's actually amazing about this accident is that a Model S hit a fire truck at 60 mph and the driver only broke an ankle," Musk tweeted. "An impact at that speed usually results in severe injury or death."

In April, Musk was asked by "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King, "what's the purpose of having autopilot if you still have to put your hands on the wheel?"
This is what your "AVERAGE PERSON" thinks when they hear of "Auto-Pilot". And remember, most of these "Rich Owners" will literally have the warning go in 1 ear, out the other. They'll tune out any warning like it's a typical EULA you find on a App install or click past it like it's a nuisance.

I did address it, you're just not bothering to read & understand it.

You think that many adults would read all warning labels and follow it perfectly. That's not how reality works.
Most adults, they literally will read it once, and "In one ear, out the other".

You just think the "I gave you all the warnings" and that should clear my company of any wrong doing and everything should be honky dory.

The reality is that people are still dying in large numbers for given how short of a life "Auto Pilot" has been in existence.

The only solution to it is to have systems to literally observe the driver and verify if they are paying attention.
That means more than just steering wheel grab sensors.
You need Visual Observation, IR observation, weight sensors, sensors to detect if the person is awake.
Sensors to actually SEE if the hands are on the wheels instead of just relying on pressure pads or magnetic field sensors in the steering wheels.

There is a whole host of technologies he can literally implement. But that would cost a lot of $ to do that to ensure human driver proper compliance.

If the humans aren't compliant, the computer must find a way to pull onto the shoulder, stop the vehicle, and find a way to alert the driver repeatedly until they wake back up or get back to their senses and drive as designed.

Otherwise, these fatalities will continue.

Or the system can have multiple internal sensors to monitor the driver and literally pull the vehicle over onto the shoulder when the driver isn't complying with their part of the responsibility.

But no, a warning message each time is all that is needed.

Yes. Being told not to do it. Then being earned when you are doing it is sufficient. The fact that a few people don't listen is 100% the fault of the driver. The fact that they ignore warnings makes the driver a worse person. Not the company.

And you mentioned a vast number of people killed by autopilot.

The automotive and aerospace industries are amongst the most challenging, especially when you're a brand new car company. (Tesla hasn't even been around 20 years, whereas the giants have been around for closer to 75-100 by this point).

There's a shit ton of challenging and interesting and brand new work to be done in electric autonomous vehicles and space travel.

why so defensive? LMAO

Let me teach you something. If you told me that you're smarter than me, it wouldn't bother me one iota. But what if I'm smarter than you? All the evidence shows that you'd be trembling in your boots. I'm not saying I'm smarter than you, I just wanted that thought to cross your mind so that you could see the repulsive feelings you feel when you consider the possibility. Maybe you are overly confident in yourself and maybe that shuts you off from learning new things. The truth is that neither of us is smarter than the other - we just know different amounts of different things, and we could both learn from the other.

I was joking about you not being able to survive at SpaceX or Tesla, but I totally meant that you should work there if you have a chance to do so. It'll show you that it isn't the credentials or the length of experience that matter. It's the quality of the experience.

So I moved back to Chicago to be near friends and family while I finished off college and enjoyed a very cushy job elsewhere.

Yes, but I didn't want to do that because I wanted to be done with college.
Are you done with College now?

Yup! I was accepted into the graduate program at both of the colleges I'm most interested in (both have an online variant of their program so I could do it without quitting my job) but I've deferred signing up for classes for the last year and I might defer again lol. Not sure if I actually give a damn about doing a master's or not. If I do it I might end up like @MacadamianNut3 so idk if it's worth it :P

Maybe you are overly confident in yourself and maybe that shuts you off from learning new things

Do you not know what a PhD is. Who the fuck would try to (and inevitably fail at) earning a PhD just so they could do research and learn new things if they wanted to shut themselves off from learning new things

Don't interpret my posts towards you as arrogance. More like addressing a shitposter who got tired of his religious gimmick and now keeps Elon's dick in his mouth 24/7

I know a number of PhDs who were unsuccessful in industry because they were wrapped up in theory and basically unwilling to learn how the "real world" works

It's no secret that PhDs get arrogant because they think their useless degree actually means more than it does. Let's not pretend that PhDs are the paragon of interest in learning just because they got a PhD lol.

Cry moar bro, your tears are delicious.

Hey, that position is filled by Amber Heard.

I'm sure Elon doesn't swing that way.

The best way to solve this beef would be to do some competitive programming so we can see who writes cleaner and more performant code. And who builds shit that's actually cool.

@MacadamianNut3

What say you? Surely your PhD wasn't just reading books and you wrote some code.

Same. I also know a good number of PhDs who jump jobs like it's going out of style because one minor thing at a company doesn't suit them

That hasn't applied to me yet tho so.....

I say I have no interest in entertaining this, easy as that. I'm not even going to bother linking my Github for you or any papers I've written. What a twist

Yes a PhD in CS includes reading books and writing code among other things. If you have any other questions, just shoot or use Google.com
