V3? Huh? Strange choice. I hope that 'V' doesn't mean "Virtual."

Well, shoot. This may be the last game in the series that I can play, so sure; I'll kick one of these up. Give it a try, see if it works out.

Shoot, though. I can finally go into this without bothering with fan patches and the like, so I'm getting the 'real deal.' Glad Square heard the fans out on that.

I also locked myself in on spoilers, as I did for Infinity War, so I'm in with very little information. I only know the following:
-The prison setting. That's it
-The character designs. A few ultimates, too: Robot, Assassin or something, and Pianist, and apparently, we play the Pianist. I love how crisp the design are this time around; where 1 could look 'spindly,' they've really solidified come V3.

I'll try for content after every other day. I've been transferred to a less hectic department, so I won't be as feeble when I move around. I also can't promise it'll match the quality of the ones I've archived (that's a damn tall order), but if hearing from a guy that stowed himself from the community to dodge spoilers, then you might enjoy this.

Now to wait for an install (must be goddamn huge), and uh. I'll rank the designs I guess. Make (wildly inaccurate) predictions, that kind of deal.

Seconding hype, and also encouraging predictions! Good call avoiding spoilers too, you did a better job than me lol (I was able to stay mostly blind but knew about one major thing going in, and really regretted not being able to react to it organically when I got there)

Apologies; I must not have been clear! There's two pretty solid playthroughs of the first game that I highly recommend reading.

Suprak made one way back, and it's pretty much the gold standard for playthroughs. Spit out my drink a couple times with the character/event descriptions, but you can really understand where he's coming from:

Ultimate Revival

So, we're working with Kaede. Nice. She's much less of a pushover, which I definitely appreciate (was no fan of the first Ultimate Luck). Have to say, her hair looks remarkably organized for someone that got stuffed in a locker. Must be one well-kept protagonis-

-Who the hell introduces themselves like that? "I'm Kaede Akamatsu ... the protagonist of this crazy story." I might be recounting incorrectly but Makoto and Hajime didn't go to that length. They were just folk that arrived at Hope's Peak, no real bold claims. I don't know why they'd do this, but I figure I'll run into it again.

After some re-adjusting, there's some clanking. Suddenly another kid drops out of the locker! Are they all set up one male, one female, or did that happen to be coincidence? Danganroyale when

So this kid's named Shuuichi and he's about what I'd expect: paranoid, off his bearings, and perhaps apologetic. I think I can understand why this time around, though, because the shock of getting kidnapped can break a lot of people. Actually, what's with all the people getting shoved in cars? I guess there really are no consequences for facing anyone.

Okay, so I go turn around the room, look at everything, that whole nine yards. Then when I go out, I'm confronted with a giant robot. Robots again? Oh it's part of the tutorial section too? Huh. That's a neat way of doing it.

-...did they not, uh, patch the controller controls nine months in? If it means anything, it made that intro sequence with the machines. This because I was scrambling around for a run button (turns out Shift worked), but you'd think they'd have made that transition already. It's a minor grievance at this point, but it was annoying,

Pretty heavy chase sequence later, we run into our gym full of the strange and eccentric characters we'll be working with. I'm not even going to try and tie names to voices given some of the ones in 3. It's a pretty standard count, although I have a feeling someone was trying to allude to one of the Killing Games. Suspicions are all but confirmed when the snazzy music comes on, and some weirdly colored Monokumas drop out from the-

Oh. They're called Monokubs. It's been so long since I've heard those unbearable puns. (hahah. ha? I'll stop now) This must be some kind of prototype killing game of something if 'Papa Bear' is letting the kids run the show. I do like, however, that the cast is literally so dumbfounded that for a time, they just let the kubs fumble about.

Neat approach, but I'm not sure I'm a fan yet.
-Whoever that girl in the hair tie is, must be our Ibuki; the "quirky-weird" one. That interaction with Monokid was pretty goddamn goofy.

So memories are being manipulated again...egh. Par for the course, I suppose. Won't last long though as some of the clothes come down.

That's a really jazzy outfit though, especially compared to some of the other ones I saw; if I were a gal, I'd probably wear a variation of it. They really went all-out with the symbolism. Although I'm not sure if Shuuichi is actually some kind of police operative or what with that badge. Must've been one hell of an event to break him into what he is now, if that's the case.

Lastly, information on the Ultimate Society that. It's, but whether it's true or not, I appreciate the attempt at explaining what's going on. Not a lot on how they're selected, but that it's a position you can attempt to reach, and that it offers political power and others. Because after learning that, I can sort of understand why everything seems to have gone to shit. If the Ultimate Animator could incite an incursion at the end of 3, imagine what an "Ultimate Politician" could do...bad times ahead

The setting's juvie school btw. None of these kids look like prisoners. Wonder when that's going to come into play.

The Revival
Okay, so the 'revival' means the Ultimates are back. I can get behind this title.

So Kaede's gone through some changes. Noticeably, the memory of the kidnapping is gone, and another one (or some visual) in a machine entered. O...kay. Lot of memetics this time around. 2-3 was the worst case in the series by far because of the overreliance, so hopefully the whole game doesn't fall under the same crux. She's the Pianist, and she'll try to let the player know. (I'm logging those songs in case there's some weird pattern.
For as self-conscious as she is about being the 'Piano Freak,' it doesn't sound that bad actually.

Shuuichi's back too, a little less frazzled than before. Here, we get the notification that we get an Ultimate Detective...huh? Kirigiri doesn't seem like the type to lie about tying with someone, so maybe the Ultimate titles are more local than we thought?

Well, hey, there's a boon in this: we get a less competent detective this time around...I like this. Followed the coattails of superior long enough. There's a reason Mia Fey bit the axe in the first Phoenix Wright game.

I do like, though, how Kaede's actually making plans and taking control? Hell yeah go get out of there! Oh and you can slap stuff now! Just some things, but poking. Sometimes a bit clunky, but it worked out fine in the first classroom.

Oh and everyone gets free ipads. Well, uh, thanks Monokubs! I'm honestly surprised that they didn't paw out some bear shapes for the devices.

-At least two people may have insider information on this hiding: Rantaro and that unnamed Blue-haired girl. Rantaro on one hand, his dialogue is suspect. But he may not actually. He provokes intrigue; probably discrete, not directly digging. He sits back and tries to let others leak for him. Look forward to seeing what tricks he may have up his sleeve. And then Blue-hair is just adding white noise:
"I don't know how they're moving."
"What is that?"
Once is whatever, this could be a pattern. I know it's a stretch but i don't trust her. Or maybe they added an emotionally compromised individual to the game.
Someone else demanded information, but they don't even show us who did that. I'll try to remember that if it comes up again, they're in the same 'shitlist', I guess I'll call it.

They're all ok-ish. I don't really think much of them yet. Monodam had one line, and that's during their intro.

Also thank goodness that's the case. I was fine Kirigiri for a bit, but after the second half of the first game, her character got very messy. Game couldn't really decide if she was flawed or a hero so the narrative tries to stumble into both...except that her flaw isn't really addressed as a flaw, and her method is pretty bloody terrible.

Regardless, update coming later Monday.
I like many of the newer characters.
Some needed some more polish.
And one, I already can't stand.
