Like, why is someone deemed worthy of becoming a citizen just because they were able to get an American to fall in love with them? And what if they're only pretending to be in love so they can get citizenship?

I thought that most the time we let people immigrate here because they have something to offer us. What do immigrant brides/grooms offer us? I don't get it.

Why would anyone want to be American at this point is a better question

Well, it's a hell of a lot better than living in Syria, Argentina, North Korea, and many other countries. Sooooo.....

There is a worldwide inferiority complex, but they won't admit it. They'll just continue saying America sucks on the Internet, which is fine.

It isn't as easy as walking in and saying "Hey I married this girl from Russia, give her citizenship please"

They had something to offer the spouse, at the very least.

'Mail-order' brides, and even the much-maligned chain migration, are actually rather harmless.

I see no problem. Immigration should be made easier.

Yeah but then wages won't stay low because the person won't be able to work for garbage.

Can't be having that, can we?

Exactly. We should ship Melania back to whatever shit house country she came from!

Although, at this point she'd probably be grateful for that. lol

It's not as simple as you make it. I hate to go into semantics but there are a ton of technical things they must do to get here legally even after marrying an American.

They must prove that the relationship is authentic, true and that they are really in love. They must have proof of meeting each other. An investigating will go into huge depths to prove this as well. There are a ton of paper to fill out, lots of evidence to provide, phots, individual interviews to prove you two aren't faking it and the money for applications. They have to be medically cleared from a certified doctor to be accepted to the US as well.

And even after going through all that and being accepted to come to America, the immigrant still isn't auto accepted as a citizen. They start with a green card no matter what and will still have to go through the whole citizen test and shit to be a full fledged voting American.

Dude it is a pain in the ass.

In addition to everything Veggeta mentioned, it's a fairly expensive process (literally every step requires hundreds of dollars at least. In total IIRC it came out to at least 2500 bucks if not more, and that's without a lawyer).

Oh not to mention it can become literally the only way a person will get a visa to the US legally. My (now) wife was trying to get a tourist visa when we were dating. She had already been to the US three times and adhered to the requirements of those visas. But the embassy straight up told her that they would never grant her any type of visa besides a K-1 since she told them she wanted to visit me.

Yea, I get that it isn't easy, but why exactly are we letting them do it? I thought we were only supposed to take people who actually have something to offer us, like doctors or scientists or engineers, etc. Why do we allow people to sleep their way to citizenship?

Isn't that unfair to the other people trying to get in? What if they're too ugly to get an American to marry them? what then?

They offer being a life partner to a supporting American. Everything else they do is a bonus.
