Already got the snes, not interested enough to get the nes

Most games from back then are too hard if you ask me, I even felt that way as kid. Wasnt until the snes/genesis era that I feel like games started to be more accessible and fun for longer periods of time

They sell out immediately when stores get them in stock, why on earth would they lower the price?

All that matters is that I can't justify $80 even if it is less than what the cartridges would cost.

Simpler technology usually means fewer things that can fail, tbh. I expect my Gameboy will probably outlast my GBA-SP which, in turn, should outlast both my DS-L and 3DS (and, technically, if you count that I broke the chassis on my first DS-L, it kinda already has -- although that wasn't mechanical failure, that was just clumsiness).

Even the older consoles have all sorts of things that go wrong with them. Good luck finding a secondhand atari or nes that actually works. Its possible, but most of them need components replaced.

I still got an old SNES hooked up. I think mine was a newer model of it though, wanna say we got it in 97. It doesn't work perfectly, takes the games a few tries to start up but once the game's going you're usually fine. Save features also don't work great although that's more of a cartridge thing.

Why would it be hard? I still have my original NES and easily replaced the 72 pin connector to fix any potential blinking screens. I have systems going all the way back past the Atari and the only one to break beyond my ability to fix was an original PS1 when the laser board broke. Granted I haven't used them all recently but still. Retro systems are way more bulletproof than modern platforms.

I have a working Game Gear, VB, and launch day PS2 and PS3. Just gotta take care of 'em and clean them once in a while. Maybe replace a battery too.

They do, as long as they are computers that are "pre-hard drives" and relied only on RAM (besides tape or disk drives). My Commodore 64 runs perfectly fine to this day. In fact, I still dial into Commodore BBSes with it. My Apple IIgs is still working great as well too. Many expansion cards are still being sold and actively developed for the old Apple IIs.

Wait how is your Game Gear still working? Is it the Majesco re-release? I found two original Game Gear handhelds a couple of years back for super cheap and they both need their capacitors replaced. I'd have done them myself but I'm too much of a clutz to trust myself with a repair job such as such.

On topic, no I won't be buying either any time soon. Almost all of my money is being focused on my out of state move happening in about two weeks and I'll be pretty tight with my money once the move is done until I can find myself a job. It's no huge loss though since I already own an actual NES and SNES and have a pretty good amount of games for both.

No, mine was recapped and the backlight redone. I bought it used a while ago. I'll also admit I sent my VB screens out to be retouched because the glue wears off over time and they get glitchy.

Many jobs can be done at home if you take your time and have the right tools. Just cleaning the dust out occasionally goes a long way. A few specialty jobs you may want to have someone else do especially if you're not handy with a soldering iron. In any case these consoles are very durable and are totally repairable. Modern consoles (ones with fans and HDD's) get a lot hotter than retro systems so it's even more important to keep them dust free if you want them to survive. There are a ton of videos online so there's little reason to be afraid of some maintenance.

Though I have both the original consoles with a great selection of games, I've been watching on ebay for a modded snes classic with 250+ snes and nes games. Paying $130 for that many games doesn't seem that bad.

Completely forgot about this. Went to Target this morning to get sunblock, saw a bunch of people gathered out front. It was about 5 minutes before the store opened, walked over and they were all talking about getting the NES Classic. So I just jumped on in with them and snagged one. Hoping to set it up for my son on his birthday.

Honestly I say the whole 'planned scarcity' rumor is BS. It's an excuse people use when they underestimate the popularity of Nin's products. Those who want it most will get it first. History has shown us that Nin doesn't need tricks to sell their products. Their quality reputation is plenty.

The factory screen and lighting wasn't very good to start with. There's literally a fluorescent tube in there that likely went bad. While it can be fixed, a lot of people have been upgrading to a more modern screen or using LED lighting. Fixes several problems and is more energy efficient.
