If immortality was developed within your lifetime would you accept it?
What forms of immortality would you be fine with? Cryopreservation? True biological immortality? Digital? What would you do if you became immortal? Relax forever; surfing/gaming/partying? Explore the stars? Rest? I think its something that needs to be discussed because I think its possible it could be developed within our lifetime; unlikely but very possible. In my opinion if the development of immortality is a possibility; then it should supersede pretty much EVERYTHING in life because if you can find immortality you have all the time in the world to work on other research. e.g would you rather humanity to find out how to get to mars or how to become immortal? To increase the likelihood of it being developed I reckon there needs to be more interest and discussion the topic; its still currently thought of as an impossibility by the general public. There are quite alot of promising ventures into the development of immortality such as Google's large medical research company "CALICO" which was created for researching immortality. Calico https://www.calicolabs.com/ (main website) https://endpts.com/a-monster-discovery-deal-between-abbvie-and-googles-calico-gets-a-new-lease-on-the-lab-with-1b-more-to-back-aging-research/ (recent article on increased funding into the company) Other recent innovations that show great promise for immortality include our understanding of gene editing becoming far more advanced with technologies such as CRISPR being developed and refined over the past 30 years. CRISPR is basically medical sciences' silver bullet in terms of gene editing and its one of the biggest fields of medical research right now; its not clinically available yet but the clinical trials are extremely promising. Personally, Im pretty invested into this subject and I've dedicated most of my --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Most people who want immortality are those who are dissatisfied with their lives. Wouldnt it be the opposite? If your life is awesome why not keep yourself young and live like that forever? You could do anything and everything available on earth because time isnt an issue. Personally if I became immortal I'd spend all my time on other frontier-research projects such as space travel. It might sound silly/romanticised but if you became immortal you are pretty much guaranteed to travel space if you desire it because even if space travel takes a 1000 years to get developed; you will live to see it. I spend most of my time around old people in the hospital and it is definitely much more painful to be old than to be young. why does living forever automatically equals depression/trash life It doesn't. That's just something mortals tell themselves to feel better about death. The main exception would be if the body underwent enfeeblement and the mind unraveled, where the cells continued to live even as the 'individual' dispersed into nothing. Barring that, there isn't a single reason to turn down immortality. If you really feel mopey after 1,000 years you can always launch yourself into a star, or a black hole; "problem" solved. --- "I'd rather betray the world than let the world betray me." -Cao Cao ... Wouldnt it be the opposite? if someone dissatisfied with his life and got immortality, then he can work at it until he satisfied because there would be no time limit. if someone already satisfied, then it would be going on a downhill journey from there, and immortality would be seen less appealing. at least that's how i see them. --- You have the right to remain silent. anything you post will be misquoted, then be used against you. ... How would that even be sustainable? The population would explode. I've put alot of thought into this as well. 2 ways. 1. Likely sterilization enforced with becoming immortal. if you want to become immortal you need to become sterile UNTIL either the population is under a specific quota (e.g new houses created via various methods or some people decide to pass on) OR until a sustainable way of maintaining exponential population growth is found such as ... 2. Space travel. effectively an infinite amount of space out there and if we have infinite amount of time we will eventually find out a way to colonize other planets. There are quite a few reversible methods of sterility (albeit they often have decent failure rates atm but that will surely change with future medical advances). --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
