The Sedgwick County District Attorney Thursday released body cam footage to the Wichita Eagle, showing a now-former Wichita police officer firing at family dog and injuring a child, reports CBS affiliate KWCH. Police said officer Dexter Betts was responding to a domestic dispute and suicidal call on Dec. 30, 2017, when he fired two shots at a dog he reportedly believed was charging at him.

In the video, an officer can be heard saying, "We got a dog inside here, too," with a slight laugh, just a moment before Betts opens fire in the living room where, according to the Wichita Eagle, there were four children.

The girl who was struck was treated at a local hospital and released.

Fuckin hell....don't watch the video if you can't handle it...the little girl's screams are fuckin heartbreaking....Thankfully this cop was actually fired and is being charged with aggravated battery.

also if I remember right from this story the dog wasn't even attacking. I think they said after this happened, the dog still didn't attack the cop, proving that he had been wrong. but yea, don't open fire in a room with a little girl. fuck that guy.

9 times out of 10 they didn't need to do it. cops tend to just pull out their guns the second they see a dog. regardless of what it's doing. I've heard stories of cops shooting dogs that were laying down relaxing. cop sees it, and shoots

he even said "dog inside, attacked us"...the fuckin dog didn't attack anyone...

alot of cops are just scared of dogs. I don't get it. they use K9 Officers. but other people's dogs terrify them. also, they charge someone who kills a K9 officer as killing a cop. but they will murder people's pets and laugh about it. it makes no sense to me

Take your hand off the trigger, man, it's just a dog. This has to stop being standard police procedure for handling dogs. Most dogs aren't even a lethal danger, why should they be met with lethal force.

I'm saying though i've come into contact with a lot of dogs. I'll go over to a friends house and see a new dog, i'll see a dog on the street and walk by it. some have barked at me, yes, but not a single one has ever attacked me....These cops out here shooting at any fucking move a living things makes.

Cops factually lie on police reports to cover their ass daily, oftentimes at the expense of people that pay their paycheck. American cops are fucking worthless and it's a lowest common denominator type of job. They like stupid people who follow orders and don't ask too many questions.
