You should pay whatever you and your fiancee feel is appropriate.

Why do people make this so fucking complicated all the time? It's a ring. Yes, it's fancy and it's pretty, but it's just a symbol. You and your partner should care less about what it is and more about what it means.

I paid significantly more than that mainly because we had been together for 7 years which admittedly is a long time before popping the question. We recently got it appraised and surprisingly the ring is worth a bit more than what I paid for, which was interesting.

I would only spend what you can afford to and try not get suckered into any payment or installation plans (but if you have to, so be it - just pay it off as soon as you can). This ring should NOT bankrupt you - unfortunately, a lot of people get themselves into trouble with this.

If not the ring, then usually the wedding.

Unless you're just sitting on a million bucks and don't have literally anything else to spend that money on, then no. The engagement ring shouldn't even be that expensive. You will have wedding ceremony and reception expenses, you'll probably want to go on a nice honeymoon, there might be costs associated with moving in together and buying new stuff for your household (if you're not already living together), etc.

There's just no reason to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on an engagement ring.

I don't think it's necessary. You can find beautiful rings for a lot less I'm sure.

My wife chose her own ring. It was $900. She thought that was obscene. But I gladly paid, and would have paid 10x that, because it was the one that she liked.

That's just who we are. She's not materialistic, and I would do anything for her.

Pay what makes sense and what you can afford. Thats a decision you and your future spouse should make together. If you can comfortably afford a 6k ring, theres nothing wrong with that.

I'd you can afford one super expensive I don't see why not, but no matter the amount of money we have my girlfriend and I have agreed that spending so much in excess on a ring can't be justified.

We want to spend like 500$ on an engagement ring, 200$ on wedding bands and then like...2000$ max on a wedding.

goyim, if you do not pay at least FIVE MONTHS of your gross salary for an ornament that I got for free from my african child sla- I mean my little scavenger hunting friends then you do NOT truly love her.

in fact, im going to make an article on it in cosmopolitan on it and make her and her friends think you're cheap and not a real man, and dont you even DARE think that a wedding celebration less than 1 year of your salary is acceptable, im not even gonna go there.
