I just got a Switch and none of my friends in real life play Nintendo games, so feel free to add me!

Played in two online tournaments. Lost in the third round in one, then made it to the semi-finals and had the most intense online game I can remember before barely losing in the tiebreaker.

My opponent started hitting me with drop shots in the tiebreaker after not using them at all beforehand and I was not ready for it.

I don't think I've ever been as disappointed by a game before

The demo seemed great. Turns out the demo was of the only decent part of the game. The single player is pretty much non-existent, the gimmick courts are garbage, and the lack of actual options/settings is just... What the hell

Care to elaborate here? I don't have the game but I played three levels in story mode on my friend's copy yesterday and those alone were more meaningful single player content than I've seen in the entirety of all the other Mario sports games I've played. (Except for the Gameboy ones, those were awesome.)

The Adventure mode is basically repeats of the same three/four objectives for about 3 hours. And then they took out star tournaments. So once you've "Hit panels for X points!" or "Rally for X points!" about a dozen times, there's nothing else to do. Nothing to unlock or earn.

Star tournaments atleast gave you something to do, as it unlocked better versions of the characters.

It's true, the single player mode is more of a chore than an enjoyment. It's very tacked on and feels a bit soulless.

I also think it's kinda crappy that they have these opponents in the single player but won't let us play as them for several months down the line.

Playing the tennis portion is fun and enjoyable, but I can't help but feel like it's a letdown of a game overall. You can just see the potential and know so much of it was missed.

To be fair, they were very smart from a business sense

The demo showed off the gameplay, which is great and made people go "I can't wait to see the other content!"

The problem is Nintendo was then like "Other content? What other content?"

Even though I want to play as Kamek or Dry Bones or Shy Guy, knowing they're just going to be doled out to us 4+ months from now kills the buzz when they're likely readily available right now.

In most cases, people generally don't buy fighting games for their story, so it's not a huge issue for me.

It's more like removing Arcade and Survival and Trials

Adventure mode is really not that fun. you can't even play as anyone except mario. they need to add some doubles tournaments too.

I feel like the matchmaking system can be improved on.

The first game is nearly impossible to lose because you always get matched against someone who seemingly is playing their first game, then the second match puts you against someone with 5000+ points.

I'm at 600 points and every single tournament other than the first two I've played has gone exactly like this, with no in between.

I always get so close against those second opponents too, but they've clearly played for so much longer than I have which gives them the edge.

Very interesting.

Both things are true, I think. There's a lot to like about the game and it has a very strong core, but it's a little lacking in content... also there aren't very many really good Mario sports games so it's not hard to be one of the best.

do the story mode-only characters have special moves? Maybe they're not 100% complete like Baraka and Sindel in Mortal Kombat X

although it seems like it couldn't be a super big amount of work to make them complete if they've already got sound effects and models that can run around and play tennis

So are people still into this? Is there at least lot more match-up depth with the wider roster than in the demo?

SEP's reaction of "the demo was basically this game's actual online" has me really down. I've been more and more tempted to actually buy this lately, but if the enthusiasm just isn't there from people who own the game then, I dunno. :(

hey they changed how matches are accepted, instead of it being "do you want to challenge them" it's just defaulted yes but with a 10 second timer to check the connection first and give time for anyone to cancel!

why doesnt adventure mode just have a goddamn restart button thats all i want

after you fail an event (or know youre going to fail) why do you have to quit all the way out through 1 loading screen and 1 dialogue crawl and then go all the way back with 2 dialogue crawls and 1 loading screen. it takes like a full minute to get back to retrying. infuriating.

A patch was released that supposedly fixes the rating issue as well as the options bug where gyroscope controls would randomly turn themselves on/off despite what you have picked in settings.

Two big things that should hopefully benefit online. Still no retry button though.
