There was a move by people who didn't like the movie to the remake it. I know this is dumb as hell so I am not even going to touch that. However people who addressed them kept making as if every person who didn't like the movie were just some racist white/sexist white guy. And these people real actors and people with blue checks on their name on line. So just not random people.

I don't want to sound like a conspiracy person, but it does seem like there is a real effort to discredit anyone who dislikes the movie as racist and sexist. Are there racist and sexist people who didn't like the movie YES. But the writer literally said that he wanted to make half the fan base upset.

There's a major difference between saying "I want people to either love or hate my movies" and "I want to upset half of an established fanbase"

A lot of people are taking their hate of TLJ and the people involved too far. It's pretty undeniable. It doesn't mean everyone who dislikes the movie is like this though.

Bottom line is that these "saviors" of the Star Wars franchise are beyond the pale in terms of reason. They've attached so much of themselves to their disapproval of this one film and have done so for six months.

To me it is not about Star Wars, I don't really care about much about it . It is more along the lines of the attack on the people who dislike it is more off putting then anything else. It shows an effort to silence people my using sexism and racism simply because you disagree with their stand point. That is a much larger issues then a movie. Sexism and Racism is something that still effects movies and shows. Look at Ben Shapiro getting all bent out of shape over Black Panther. And even in Star Wars there are clearly some people who are racist when it comes to Rose. Her facebook name was changed to the Ching-Chong. So yes these horrible people exist, yet when you call real criticism sexism and racism you devaluing the worth of those words.

I don't think anyone is claiming that the toxic side of the Star Wars fandom is anything new.

And this is what Rian Johnson actually had to say about the Rose controversy.

On social media a few unhealthy people can cast a big shadow on the wall, but over the past 4 years Ive met lots of real fellow SW fans. We like & dislike stuff but we do it with humor, love & respect. Were the VAST majority, were having fun & doing just fine.

Done with this disingenuous bullshit. You know the difference between not liking a movie and hatefully harassing a woman so bad she has to get off social media. And you know which of those two were talking about here.

Seems like there are people who are willingly grouping themselves in with those people for whatever reason.

Even the greatest film maker isn't that good, and someone of Johnson's level certainly isn't.

Some people get defensive, and they have good reason to. Accusations of racism and sexism are never questioned, even under circumstances like this where they self servingly provide a way to dismiss any criticism as unfair. It's up there with "the teacher gave me an F because they hate me, not because I didn't study". It creates a feedback loop where people speak back against an unfair label, only to get called it louder because criticism isn't wanted, and the pattern repeats.

Quit the name calling and those people making the same rants will go away as they won't feel they have to openly defend themselves constantly from liars and overgrown children taking anyone not liking their movie as a personal attack. It's hardly that. Indy 4. Bay's Transformers. Batman bs Superman and the DCEU. There's a lot of movies getting shit on online, none of which are masterpieces either.

I saw much the same with the prequels, and I imagine the same thing will happen. Even people that love TLJ today will look back at it in 10 years and wonder what they were on when they thought it was the most awesome thing ever that needed defending from all negativity.

I was only a kid though. No idea how the dudes in their 20's were acting like back then.

It's the same thing everytime a sequel or remake turns out to be bad, only Star Wars is much larger and thus has a much larger sect of psychos who can't handle just disliking something that's a part of something they love.
I think the new FLCL season is bad and doesn't have any of what I love about the original series. Doesn't mean I think FLCL is ruined forever or that I am being personally attacked by real people just doing their jobs.

Well said. I think the hate is more because of the story and quality and not this sexist/racist narrative. The same elements were pretty much in TFA as well and it wasn't hated. The only additions are Holdo and Rose, which are definitely not enough to cause such split opinions. The rest is the usual vile trolling you get with most shit nowadays. I mean, Chris Pratt got shited on for what Star-Lord did in IW. Social media is bad.

I just think that those trying to defend it come off as just as bad, if not worst than the people who are hating it because they take it to a personal level and start making shit up. You'd think if you're going up against basement dwelling nerds, you'd try not to come off as an angry 5 year old.

It is funny because I watched an episode of Amos n' Andy because I felt Finn fit the mold. (the TV show) not the horrible radio show. I didn't know who this Kingfish dude was who was getting all of the screen time and it turns out that he got pushed forward while Amos got push the back. And this just so happen after Amos become a successful business man in the show. It is telling that people didn't want to see Amos or Andy make it. It would be like someone being upset because Ralph got a better house for Alice.
