They were making a pretty unique game that was very very different from its predecessors. Do you think they knew it was gonna be a hit while they were making it?

I wonder if they knew re 4 wii edition would be one of the greatest games of all time. I despise shooters and never play them but have done like a hundred playthroughs of re 4 wii over the past 10 years. Nay, more than 10 years now.

It was so amazing it actually made me want to get into the series but it's unparalleled in its immaculate design. No game in the series before it or after it has been fun at all, not like this intuitive fun game.

ashley gets a lot of undeserved hate
character wise she is fine. not great but fine
and as far as escort missions go she is tolerable

she isnt as stupid as other escort mission characters and her playable segment is one of the few parts that actually felt like a horror game

Lol I was actually going to get the wii zapper at the time. But honestly the wiimote and nunchuck combo is fine. Such a perfect design, it's like the console was made just for this game alone. No other game on the Wii just works like re 4 does. And that's with my ranking super mario galaxies and xenoblade way higher in terms of legendary status.

Re 4 wii is just a joy to play and I'm glad I got the wii fixed so I can introduce more people to it as well as play it

I usually ignore people that hate escort missions since they're usually the type to also hate water levels and are just generally unpleasant beings on the internet, but I will comment on the ashley thing and how much I enjoyed playing re 4 wii for the first time, having 0 knowledge of what re even was, and being absolutely terrified.

The suspense of trying to beat these parasite infested villagers while making sure ashley doesn't get taken away was positively thrilling. I actually used to play this game standing up which gave me much better control when walking around with Leon and aiming.

The first time getting stuck in those bear traps... the first time helping ashley from getting stuck in those bear traps... oh the memories

This was the peak days of video game creativity before the downfall, where making one game literally resulted in the creation of an entirely new game aka devil may cry, before they went on to make the re 4 we know and love.

You just don't see situations like that anymore. The high development costs plus the stupid online features nonsense of current gen gaming prevent creativity from ever being a factor when making games. It's just a shame.

RE6 has legendary gameplay. There hasn't been a game since that keeps control in your hands while pulling off the shit you can on that game. You can literally slide drop C4 and blow it up at the other end of the slide. Leon can use his twin pistols like he's in the church scene of Kingsmen

If it wasn't called RE6 it would of been praised like crazy

RE4 Wii was incredible, yeah. Actually a good point made above that it may have benefited more from the Wiimote than any other game, except like Wii Sports (duh).

RE4 was one of those games that got everything right, both the gameplay/mechanics/etc and more intangible things like pacing and atmosphere. there's not really a way to determine how to get those intangible qualities right, you just have to do it. RE4 is one of those once in a lifetime types of games imo

Well when you take every single aspect of every single previous entry in a franchise and 100% improve on it, Id think youd have a little bit of confidence in your work.

agreed, she was very well integrated into the game.

for regular encounters where you just want to focus on combat, you can shove her in a dumpster and not worry about her for the whole fight. the only times you have to worry about protecting her are when she is actually the main mechanic to consider, like that time she has to activate a lever and you're killing the snipers before they get to her

RE4 is a flawed game.

Why everyone thinks it's so great is beyond me. The game is full of broken mechanics you can abuse to make it a walk in the park even in the hardest mode.

The enemies run towards you and stop right before reaching you and then they walk slowly giving you enough time to do anything....the A.I. is a joke. "Hey guys there's a ton Ganados coming after me. I'll just shoot one guy in the face and then do a devastating AoE roundhouse kick that will knock everyone away from me(while making me invulnerable). While they're taking their slow ass time to get back up I think I'll seal their fate with my knife"

Not being able to change your weapons in real time is also terrible even for its time several games allowed you to do this....go watch a YouTube of mercenary mode the ones with high scores and I guarantee you they pause more than 20 times.

The knife and pistol is already one of the most powerful weapons in the game. In fact you could clear most of the game with just these two weapons. And because you're not using your other weapons and ammo (because you're lol pwning with the knife) you can then sell your access ammo and other weapons and buy even stronger weapons to literally blow through the bosses.

Let's not forget that if they somehow manage to grab you, it's insanely easy to get out of it and even kill them by kicking their head to explosion, and if you ever think you can get close to me then say hello to my grenades or shotgun lol.

Don't get me wrong guys. I don't hate the game and I certainly enjoyed playing it. I just think it's highly overrated and doesn't deserve the praise you Internet nerds give it.
