He should have at the very least faced the normal penalties for that kind of speeding. Wtf.

I agree, feel like he should have lost his license
And manslaughter charges as well

judge: "there's no proof he was speeding a lot"

Guess it's ok to kill people if you're just being dangerous for short bursts. It's a real head scratcher why that judge received threats.

I hope that driver has three of his tires stolen every time he tries to own a car for the rest of his life.

At the very least, the article showed the video, instead of a slideshow of stills, or just stopping right before the critical frame, or some talking head explaining how it's "graphic and disturbing" and then doing both of the above anyway.

So it didn't meet the legal test of dangerous sustained driving? I guess regulation doesn't get you shit in the end.

It's how Chinese laws work, if the victim is still alive then you get punished more harshly, that's why it's a legitimate tactic to set your vehicle on reverse if you hit someone to make sure they're dead.

This happened in Canada, the judge was probably bribed or something

Sounds like Stand Your Ground laws here, where you have a much better chance of getting off scott free if you make sure the other witness(es) are dead, so it's harder to prove the killing wasn't "in self defense."
If the person you shot lives, you're in trouble. Better to unload all your rounds when you fire, to make sure he doesn't.

been watching russian car accident videos a lot lately so I'm kind of used to that now. didn't take long to get desensitized.

(warning: potentially disturbing. I'm pretty used it now. haven't seen much blood, but there's quite a few that are probably fatal, and a lot of pedestrians and motorcycles getting hit. lots of the motorcyclists are killed instantly, though it's not always that bad.)
