For the same reason Cloud was put in over Terra, Celes, Locke, Onion Knight, Cecil or any other Nintendo console based Final Fantasy - because he signifies the entire series and is most recognizable. ernieforss 06/18/18 2:06:30 PM #14:	simon can't use different weapons, change into a bat, drink blood, pass as gas, summon familiars, spew fireballs and change in to a wolf.
