There's nothing to discuss. We went over this in 11 BC. There are no planets.

This. Classifying Pluto as a planet means that we have to classify a bunch of large rocks as planets too.

No we wouldnt. If its an oversized asteroid its not a planet. If it is a smooth round sphere and has a moon its a planet.

seems pretty simple

If you're a dwarf you're still a person, but if you're a dwarf planet you're not a planet? Anyway it's either 8 or many more than that.

honestly, I think planet should have several subcategories. there's no real reason Earth and Mars should be more than only slightly related to Jupiter and Saturn.

Probably at least nine with that phantom planet that they have pretty good circumstantial evidence for.

Pluto's not a planet.

The actual answer is that there are 8, with a possible 9th Neptune sized planet very far off into the edges of the solar system. There's definitely something large tugging and causing the irregular orbit of Sedna.

It baffles me that people got so precious over the definition of a nebulous term.

It's 8 or hundreds. Because if Pluto is a planet, then so is Eris and plenty of other kuiper-belt objects.
