Where they say stuff like you had a good resume but we are going in a different direction please be sure to look for other jobs with Whatever Industries.

I just wish they say why you sucked for the role . I know with all the stuff coming in it is impossible but still dammit how can I fix the issues if I don't no what they are.

In fairness most people submit copy/paste resumes and cover letters.

A lot of red flags are pretty easy to spot, especially if you're honest with yourself and take a hard look at what you present to others.

Not only that but for every 1 person like you who can take criticism there will be 20 that will say it was uncalled for and not accept that they aren't awesome at everything

I don't know how to perceive this post with the users initials being kkk. It's not like that was unintentional

This, most of the time I had to email the HR department to see what's the status of my application. Most of the jobs I applied to never send back a rejection letter to me at all.

I remember talking to one of the people from the HR department at my firm, they state that in many cases when they send rejection letters, it's not like they're saying "you suck for the role" but that they booted you for someone more qualified like more job experience, gpa, college diploma, getting a hard to get certification for that specific job, etc.

Exactly this. I'm in HR and will not give a reason why someone was not selected. We send letters to avoid that awkward conversation ("well, you've had 12 jobs in the last 8 years, so...."). Even then, a few times a year there's still some nutcase who takes it way too personally and won't stop calling and harassing us demanding to know why they weren't hired.

Good points in here by many.. thank you.

It just stinks when you are looking something and get a rejection letter when you think you were a good fit. It just like tell me what is wrong. Just like dating, I mean if you tell me I am ugly I can take that better then just naw bro you are just not the right fit. (lol)

In all honesty the job that triggered this I didn't want anyway. It was all the way in freaking Arizona. (I am in the East Coast) It would have just been nice to have them want me, to put in the win column of life.

Can you really be salty that you weren't selected then? If you didn't want the job anyway, seems like you were just wasting everybody's time. Honestly the location may have been it, I virtually never entertain people from out of state, odds are they're just looking to take the first offer they get, move, and immediately start looking for work. Plus I would never hire someone I've not met in person, I need to know what they look like and how they carry themselves.

Giving people feedback is just opening a door to more whining and pushback. Just like when you turn someone down for a date. Of course companies will keep it generic.

I am not salty, I am just wishing I knew why I was not selected. I don't see who that is being salty?

I think as Peter_Giffyndor said, there's alot more liability from the HR department for them telling you specifically why you weren't chosen. It's just safer for them on their company just to give you a generic rejection letter.
