What else would they make the next Pokemon games on? They already confirmed that gen 8 is coming next year, and the Switch is Nintendo's one and only current console now. The 3DS is dead in the water, and will be even more dead when next year rolls around.

But the Switch IS their handheld now. It's a console, and it's a handheld. It's both. It's the only system that Nintendo is still supporting. And it's sold millions of systems and games already. They're not going to revive the 3DS or make a brand new handheld just because one single first party Switch game doesn't sell like they were hoping.

They've been adamant from day 1 that the Switch is a "home console that can be played anywhere." Which is very different from saying it's a home console as well as a portable console.

Its funny, a friend of mine said it was when it was first shown but the gimmick and how the video showed there weren't any wild pokemon battles made it all obvious.

I don't recall Nintendo making a previous system that had both a docked and handheld mode before.

I also don't recall a previous Nintendo console that had mainline Pokmon games announced for it before either.

Honestly, consoles weren't big on Pokemon...at least I don't remember much on Wii U nor Wii. There were side games but nothing big except maybe Pokken Tournament.
