Settlement building is honestly the only reason I broke down and bought Fallout 4 in the first place. It was something I'd wanted in these games ever since Oblivion: a sandbox game where you can actually play with the damn sand. And despite SB's flaws (and the simple fact that the XB1 rarely has enough RAM to satisfy my architectural ambitions), it's still the most endearing aspect of the game.

This aspect is the only reason I'm remotely interested in Fallout 76. But it sure looks like a major part of the game is dealing with other jerkoffs destroying your hard work, which is an instant and major turnoff (resource and defense destruction would be fine, but structural destruction is a huge no-no for me in this case).

Fallout 3's mirelurks were the worst enemy. That horrible croaking clicking noise they made and the fact that their only weak point was their tiny face which I could never hit because I was too busy panicking.

If the settlement building allowed you to go into an RTS mode, that'd be okay. As it was, trash.
Wouldn't mind the occasional quest to get shit to help other's build, but designing it yourself, God damn boring.

While it does have the best gameplay of the modern Fallout games, its nothing special compared to other shooters, in fact its subpar compared to most. Sacrificing quality quests and story for at best average gameplay and a horrible first person settlement builder makes it easily the worst in the series.

Not really.

1 & 2 are cult classics.
3 brought it into the mainstream and 3d. The nuking of Megaton is highly iconic. Tons of great missions and stayed true to the series.
NV was universally well received and polished the problems with 3.
4 was . . . a lot of redundancy, base building, slogging, trash. 4 lost all of the charisma the games had.

Eh... other than the improved shooting mechanics Fallouts gameplay and combat is pretty bad. Have you tried melee or unarmed without VATS? Worst experience ever

no no no they added pipe weapons to give you some idea of weapons crafting

there is no robust weapons crafting/modification system they promised

and the generic weapons stills suck - i really hate that they moved away from real-world equivalents

NV was an attempt to make the fallout 3 the original creators of 1+2 wanted to make, as the team that made NV also made 1+2 at a different studio

3 was set in DC in part to enable it to be its own thing without needing to carry the torch of the original games

Yet they still shoehorned in a lot of things from the previous games like the Brotherhood and Enclave.

There was no reason for them to be on the east coast.
