I understand that you went to a high school with only 100 students and you don't have a job or much social interaction outside of your wife and dogs, but gay men *do* tend to have lots of female friends. This may surprise you -- because you don't get out much (and possibly haven't even met a gay person irl) -- but some things pop up on tv because they're true. Also, I appreciate the hilarious hypocrisy of you of all people accusing somebody of being sheltered. I think even ICO gets out more than you do these days.

I think many people lack proper empathy. I don't know if it's a new generation thing or if it's always been like that tbh.
The dude should just be grateful to have you as a friend.
Don't let this experience take you away from healthy socialization. It's not your fault if there are others around you who lack empathy.
