Officials at a Pennsylvania middle school added another item to that list for graduating eighth-graders: Bulletproof panels, according to WPVI. It's a gift from company Unequal Technology and its founder Robert Vito, who handed out the shields to students on Monday morning.

He told Chadds Ford Live that the recent spate of school shootings like the ones in Santa Fe, Texas, and Parkland, Florida inspired him to create a product that can protect children if a mass shooting ever comes to their town.

I'm sure this will be the solution to stop school shootings.

Awesome, we've finally begun capitalizing on this. Can you imagine in the future we'll see ads on TV of a school shooter mowing everyone down, then running to the next class and past the carnage we see little jimmy behind his corporate made bulletbroof backback giving a thumbs up to the narrator before quickly ducking behind his shield again as he hears the gunfire erupt from the classroom over as the narrator tells people to call now to get a free bulletproof pencil sharper with purchase.

Of course it'll all be played in a comedic town so people don't get too angry, they aren't trying to turn a profit off dead kids no sir, they're just selling protection and showing what that protection can do for you, get off your high horse liberal.

You should know he's just making shit up.

I've said it before I don't agree with banning specific firearms or accessories and I would like to see improvements to process of purchasing a gun. I would like to see private sales be subjected to background checks and I would like to see a federally mandated waiting period.

He's just upset that I don't equate the "Right to Defend Yourself" with the "Right to own a firearm".

I don't think you can stop school shootings completely , but these types of precautions are at least a little helpful.

Shields won't do anything. Especially small ones designed to fit inside backpacks that students aren't going to be wearing 24/7.

If you really want to reduce school shootings things you can do are:

- improve mental health care
- harder punishments for people who don't properly store their firearms
- make it harder to purchase a firearm. Note: I do not mean ban firearms, but it's really no surprise with the amount of firearms that exists in the US that the US has a school shooting problem.

Thing is we make no attempts at the above.
