Not sure if I'll watch the whole thing, but I'd like to watch it again anyways.

edit: Just from the opening talk with Surtr, I remembered that this movie is funny, but at the same time, I like the other Thor movies more.

My favorite Loki part in the entire MCU is in that movie.

Which part is that?

It has a lot of great parts. Two of my main problems with the movie were that Thor doesn't feel like Thor and The Hulk is grossly underutilized.

I do really like the movie, and I should take back that I like both the other Thor movies more but for me, everything that happens in this movie is just drowned out by too much comedy.

I mean, seriously, that shot of the Valkyries flying towards Hella is amazing! I would have loved to see that fight more but noooooo. I get to hear Thor try to calm Banner down with the sun getting low bit.

The Snake story.

Hmm, I'm not sure what part that is. Hope it comes up soon.

Oh, Thor just told a Snake story. Is is that one? That is funny. Actually, this whole scene while Loki's tied up is hilarious.

Now, the part of the movie that upsets me the most. And I even like the funny part before it!

It's when Hulk fights Fenrir. That would have been an awesome fight but nooooo.

edit: the other part that still upsets me about this movie. Ever since the image was in a trailer of Hulk going to fight this giant Surtr, I wanted to see it so bad. Once again, but nooooooo...

Yep. Loki's smile at the end of it is really what makes it the best.

It really did.

Valkyrie really needed to be in Infinity War. Also, Ever since this movie, I've maintained that The Hulk needs his own movie. I want to see some great Hulk rage moments. I want it to be Banner and Hulk learning to come to some sort of agreement about body control or something.

I kind of agree.

I definitely enjoyed the movie, but it felt like it was trying to be Guardians of the Galaxy more than it was trying to be Thor. And it was inconsistent with how Thor's been portrayed in previous movies, where he DOES joke occasionally, but where he's also fairly serious when it's time for business. It also feels like we've missed multiple movies worth of character development.

In a way it's somewhat justifiable - he HAS been spending time on Earth with people like Tony Stark, but it also felt tonally dissonant, since he's just watched his dad die, his hammer get destroyed, his homeland conquered by a relative he never knew he had who turns out to be a monster, and he's trapped in space and forced to fight for his freedom. Yet nearly every other line out of him is a joke.

It was kind of inevitable, though. Chris Hemsworth has said he was tired of playing Thor as the straight man in every scene because everyone else got to be funny, so he didn't want to come back until they told him he could be a bit more comedic. And they hired a comedy director to do the movie, who leaned heavily into humor and improv over drama. So the movie feels "fun", but not necessarily all that "deep".

You may or may not have seen IW yet, so potential spoiler, but there's a line where he pretty much breaks down in tears after all the shit that's happened to him

And your point is....? It doesn't matter if something like that is in a different movie. It's the fact that things like that happened in this movie but he was being all jokey for this movie.

It was a good song though.

To me this was by far the best Thor movie. The biggest issue I had with it, though, was that the emphasis on comedy really hurt the impact that some of the scenes could have had. In particular, some of the "sad" moments, like Thor losing his Dad, hammer, hair, eye, and home were so quickly followed up by a joke that it really didn't give the audience enough time to actually feel anything.

The jokes themselves were great, IMO, but another minute or two of seriousness after those big moments would have gone a long way.

My number one complaint was using the same damned song twice in the movie for his fight scenes.

This is funny, cause while I was watching it I felt the exact same thing. Something else should have been used for the first fight. But maybe they spent all of their song money on that one song or something.

I did. And he was much more serious in that, so that just increases the tone whiplash a bit.

Irreverent. It was lazy, and really undercut the second usage.

I disagree. It perfectly fit both scenes. Not to mention the song is literally about Norse Mythology.

Yes, it does perfectly fit both scenes, but using it twice makes it's use have less of an impact. And I'm sure there's more than enough songs out there about Norse mythology that they could have used for the first fight.

Which, by the way, Thor's use of lightning during that fight on the bifrost bridge was awesome!

It's a good movie, but it's tonally weird. It'd be like watching the star wars movies in chronological order but replacing a new hope with spaceballs I mean it would be the best movie in the series but its out of place.

It was lazy. Simple as that. They should have found something else.

Sure, it was lazy. But it was still good. My aforementioned complaint about the timing of the humor was a bigger issue than awesome music showing up more than once.

Like, for instance, Amon Amarth's entire discography.
