Put Osw1n in your A-team. Most armor knights/generals are pretty underwhelming throughout the series but he is an absolute beast and one of the best units in the game

Oswin stops being good after a while due to the standard knight terrible movement, but the early chapters feature a ton of smaller, more defense-oriented maps and he's amazing for them. You'll want to drop him eventually but he's great for a while

From the small amount of time I have spent browsing this particular forum, I have noticed favouritism for certain characters, e.g. Marcus. However, what is more jarring is that I have not seen favouritism for other, more deserving characters. The character in question is Canas. Canas is, quite frankly, the best character in the game. Whoops, I meant in all Fire Emblem games. Whoops again! I meant in all games that have ever existed. Damn, I'm bad at this. I mean Canas is the best thing in existence. Even if he didn't exist, he'd still be the best. Lets start with his name, Canas. Canas is short for "Can kick your ass." (arse works too) Notice that I said "can", not "will". Being the dapper and suave gentleman he is, Canas is not an advocate of needless violence. He is a lover of all living things, and is loved by all living things in return. This benevolence is one of the many things that elevate him above all competition. For example, take Gheb, one of those with memetic status on this board. Gheb is a practitioner of "Raep", something that apparently counts as a point in his favour. "Raep" is not something which is funny, nor is it something that is good. Canas does not partake in this "raep" because he is chivalrous and kind to women. (But not too kind as to be patronising. He is a devout feminist after all). Canas proves that awesomeness is not measured with fighting ability or violence (even though he is the strongest person in all of everything). Canas is the best because he is sweet and kind and lovely. Now let's move on his appearance. Canas' most striking feature is his monocle. I know the mere mention of monocle is enough to cement Canas at the top of the leader board, but regardless I will go on. Canas wears his monocle not only as a fashion accessory, but for the greater good. Canas leaks awesome from every part of his body, but from his eyes the most. If Canas does not keep his monocle on at all times, the sheer awesome would be enough to destroy anyone he sees! (He keeps the awesomeness of his eyes in with a contact lens though. Wearing two monocles would be silly.) And you have to admit, Canas does look rather fetching with that eyepiece. Even though Canas detests violence, he is singlehandedly the best fighter in the world. Canas wields Dark magic, therefore allowing him to use Luna. With Luna, Canas is very capable of defeating the final boss in one hit! Admittedly he could defeat the final boss in one hit without Luna, but he doesn't want to be a show-off. Another advantage of Dark magic is that it allows Canas to wield Nosferatu, which can restore lost HP. This isn't really necessary though, because Canas doesn't take damage. The closest he has ever come to pain was the time when he was hit by 200 Silencers, 20 epic weapons and a black hole. It didn't hurt him, but he did mention a slight itching in his left eyebrow a few days later. I can imagine you are thinking "If Canas is so awesome, how come he died trying to stop a snowstorm in the epilogue?" But oh, he did not! It was merely a mistranslation. It was supposed to say "A snowstorm died trying to stop Canas." Wait, I got that wrong. It said "A meteoric storm died trying to stop Canas." The meteors bounced if his monocle, and shattered into non-existence. Canas didn't even notice. (Ignoring that fact he notices everything that ever occurs, has occurred, and will occur.) Oh, and another mistranslation. The epilogue mention Canas' wife. What it meant to say was "Canas' wives". And what I mean to say was "every single woman in the FE universe". This doesn't mean that Canas is some sort of "pimp" though. He treats every wife with love and care, and takes them all out for romantic dinners every single day. I think that might be it. I have said everything there is to say about Canas. Actually, no I haven't.

Guy, Lyn, and Eliwood are all more vulnerable to getting screwed overall. Hector MIGHT be speed screwed but that's about it.

Anyone is viable in this game (not true of all of them) but snipers/ archers are a notch below since blazing sword is a bit more enemy phase focused and those classes can't do much on EP

I have newfound respect for Lyn. Before starting this game up, Lyn was just another Fire Emblem character that I saw get a ton of love and I was just kind of indifferent to her. Look, it's Lyn's assist trophy, oh hey more Lyn's in Fire Emblem Heroes, oh look, she made it into Fire Emblem Warriors. But it's different now. I get it. Lyn is great so far. And I haven't even really gotten to the meat of the story yet.

Lyn is one of those likeable, uncontroversial characters. She's kind, but also a total badass, and has some really cool attack animations.

Yeah honestly I think I like pretty much all Sacaen units as characters. You pretty much always know where you stand with them, and I really respect that. Yes I even like Rutger, he has a nice support with Karel. Speaking of Karel...I hope you recruit FE7 Karel at least once. Dude's a fucking lunatic and I love him for it.

I remember I got a little upset with one mission in Path of Radiance and ended up killing a potential recruit. But I had already ran the mission enough times that I didn't wanna reset for him.

IIRC FE7 has two pairs of units that you can only recruit one of per playthrough. Wallace vs Geitz and Harken vs Karel. And then Hector mode has two exclusive units, the latter of which I guaran-fucking-tee you'll never figure out how to recruit without looking her up.

You can't get both Harken and Karel in the same playthrough. Gotta pick one, unfortunately.

The same is true for either re-recruiting Wallace or getting a new character, Geitz.

Unfortunately, it's actually impossible to recruit every single recruitable character in the game in one playthrough.

On top of two characters being exclusive to Hector's story, there are two points in the game where you can recruit one of two characters but not the other, so it's impossible to have both of them in the same playthrough. In chapter 23 (24 in Hector's story) you can either re-recruit general Wallace (who previously shows up late in Lyn's story) or you can recruit Geitz the warrior, but not both. In chapter 25 (27 in Hector's story) you can either recruit Karel the swordmaster or Harken the hero, but not both. The conditions for determining which one you get from each pair are rather complicated, but if you really want to know, I can try to explain.

Still, besides these choices, I always try to recruit every character that I possibly can. I guess that you would try to do the same, correct?

EDIT: Looks like someone beat me to it. That's what I get for trying to give a detailed explanation.

Nah, I think Matthis and Makalov are the only examples, unless the 3DS games have anything of the sort..

FE6's Noah comes close, but he and Fir are potential lovers instead of siblings, and in that case it's Fir who's the stupid would-be-killer.

Latest join time out of the Cavs, no Paragon to help him out, bad base stats for his level(but decent growths), swordlock until promotion, mediocre support options...

I would say he's third-best, only better than Astrid, and Oscar and Kieran outstrip him so much it's not even funny.

Nothing wrong with using all four Cavs though since Cav/Paladin is a broken class in PoR.

Come RD, though, and he's pretty darn bad there.

On top of that he has shaky bases for his join time (lower than Kieran's in everything that matters, in fact) when you've already got Titania and Oscar dominating most of the game. And he joins right before the desert chapter. I'd even argue that Astrid is better due to Paragon and joining in a map with Raven laguz, so it's easier to get her brought up to a more usable state in comparison. And I don't even particularly like Astrid. :/

Dude was an idiot. I had a weaponless Titania like right there and he decides he needed to go out of his way to attack Lethe, who I'm pretty sure I had made into a badass by that point.

...Fair enough. I dunno how I feel about Lowen, personally. Mounted tank is nice, but 30% strength/skill/speed growths though. I get enough crap from 40% growths, I don't need 30% in all offensive stats. :<

Lowen is my HHM star because I've somehow never had a bad one, he's tanky as balls, has top tier movement, and can rescue everyone.

He's like Marcus without the EXP drain.

Spent way longer on that map than I would have liked, but I fed Florina Exp, and leveled her like twice. Mages can't do anything to her.

Also love how Lyn has accepted everyone who's asked to help so far, but when Eliwood asked to help, it's suddenly her problem, not his.

Florina is definitely the flier you want to invest in. The only other good alternative is exclusive to Hector's mode and she comes late .
