I get approached all the time. Almost always give the dollar. The last dude called me over and told me he was American Gangster like the movie. He said he was ootin and needed a dollar for something to drink....this happened.

Depends. If I have a few dollars on me and its not like, at a traffic intersection I dont mind giving a few.
But if they start their spiel with "I'm a veteran" or "i have six kids" or somesuch I just say I don't have anything. I dont mind getting bamboozled by fake homeless people for three dollars but I do mind having my time wasted with a long sob story when I just want to leave the parking lot. >~> --- Sigs are for losers ...
