Realistically, no birth control method besides abstinence is 100% effective. That being said, why take the chance, no matter how small it is, that you get her pregnant if you're not planning on that? You might as well take extra measures to prevent it when possible.

This. My wife's cousin got pregnant while on the injection (can't remember name, was good for 3 months). She has 2 friends who also got pregnant on it at around the same time (one got pregnant about a month earlier), they went and got abortions together.
