Apple Pay / Android Pay / Samsung Pay, probably

Although Samsung Pay actually works like swiping a card, so that probably still works.

What we've moved on to from chin and pip, after having it for decades. You just place your card in front of the machine and then it does the payment that way. Often has a daily limit to stop overspending I believe.

Probably includes that as well, but chip and pin is basically ancient technology in Europe at this point.

While not crashing, the stock price has been slowly going down through today since the news. I sold my stock, just in case.

Over here, it's a 30 quid per transaction limit, not sure on daily limits.

Cash machines were still working, so everyone could withdraw money anyway.

You hover your card over the payment terminal for about a second. No swiping or inserting your card. It's pretty much the standard in Europe from what I've seen. The USA is years behind on it

Oh, that might be it. A limit at once and not daily. Not sure as my card is still pin as been too lazy to upgrade.

Haven't they only just got it in the last few years? We've had it for nearly 2 decades at this point almost.

is it standard here in Europe?
i've only seen it a rare few times, myself.

i don't really see the point of it, without the PIN, it seems like you kiss all security good bye

Supposedly just as secure, but yeah. if someone steals your card they can much more easily use it.

Payment takes several days to go out though, so you should hopefully have cancelled your card before then if it gets stolen/lost.

And basically exists everywhere now, save for perhaps smaller shops from what I've seen.

All the places I've been to in Europe have it. Contactless readers there are more prevalent than chip readers in the us from what I've seen. Some of the places where I lived before in the us didn't even have chip readers yet

I can count the amount of times I've used contactless on one hand. And this is in 6 years of using a card

the tap n pay feature only works for small purchases. For expensive purchases, you have to tap and enter your pin

It's getting more and more common in Sweden these days. It's called "att blippa" and if the purchase is more than 200 SEK you need to enter the PIN anyway.

Convenience is the point of it. It basically has the same security as old swipe cards, with a max limit on it.
