No, not bodily fluids from PotD's finest(but i wish it was!), actual meade.

well, i dont know how authentic this meade is, but its bunrattys brand meade.

this is actually pretty tasty, enough so i wouldnt mind finding and buying better meade, since i think this is an average brand.

also, the term honeymoon apparently comes from meade. meade(made with honey) was drank on the first full moon after a marriage to aid in fertility purposes.

I bottled a batch of mead just under a month ago. I'm eager to see how the first month of aging has been to it.

i watched part of a video on making mead, and the guy said its easy to make passable mead. but i assume making amazing mead takes more time and effort.

I'd assume so. This is my first time making it (having done a couple batches of wine already), and so far it's tasted pretty good, although very young.

If you like hops then Vikings Blod is good

Best mead by far that Ive had is Apis Poltorak Jadwiga. Its an import from Poland, they sometimes carry it at the big chain liquor stores like BevMo or Total Wine

i wanted an ice cold glass of meade last night to see how temp. affects taste so i threw the bottle in the freezer. i fell asleep and woke up to a frozen/slushy mix with some liquid in it. i was actually curious i know alcohol like vodka and higher proof stuff doesnt freeze in a standard household freezer, but would 14.5% abv freeze? it does just takes a lot longer than regular water.

but my question is...did i screw up the meade? i know vast temperature changes arent good for wines, so im curious. should i let it thaw out outside or wait an eternity and just put it in the 34 F refrigerator??

Looks like it'd freeze around -6-7, which a household freezer can definitely do. It's going to freeze a little unusually, though, because ethanol (and anything else with hydroxyl groups, including sugars) disrupts the hydrogen bonding that's involved in forming the crystal structure that water forms when it freezes. 14.5% wouldn't be enough to completely prevent that structure from happening, but it will definitely mess with it.

As for whether you've ruined it, I couldn't tell you. I could see it messing with the distribution of the flavour compounds, but maybe it'll be alright. Might be an idea to pour out a small amount of slush and let it thaw outside while letting the rest thaw in the fridge, to see if there's a difference.
