Knowing that there's a real game next year means that I'm in for this. Watching the trailer I was just concerned that this might be it as the new evolution or something of the series.

I love my RBY, top 3 I think series, I love my Pikachu, and it looks nice enough as its own thing. Let's Go Pikachu!

the highlight of that video was the brief moments it showed actual gameplay by showing the combat menu with like, Leech Seed or some shit.

the best thing about this game is a hint of the gameplay i got in a game 20 years ago with no interesting iteration to improve it

I never got into Pokemon GO but this "Let's GO" thing looks kinda cool, honestly. I'll have to wait and see more before getting hyped up about it. As long as I can go on a single-player journey of some kind, I'm good. Wouldn't it be cool if it was sort of Zelda-like with dungeons?

Quest will be "I'll wait until I see more."

Core series... well it can't be much worse than the abomination that was S&M. I'll wait.

I doubt it is a new Eeveelution. It's would ruin the charm to just give it to you rather than have you evolve an Eevee into the new evolution. I'm guessing it's a standalone new Pokemon that isn't related to an existing line of Pokemon.

Let's see...
1. Boring, empty region
2. Excessive cutscenes, half of them pointless
3. Mandated handholding through every single second of the game, including battles (why no way to turn off the game telling you which moves to use? COME ON!)
4. Poor soundtrack
5. "Trials" didn't feel new enough
6. Lack of personality in most characters, even more so than prior gens
7. Downgraded character customization
8. A lack of anything fresh due to adherence to a strict formula

I can't really think of many positives about S&M. It's by far my least favorite game in the core series for a reason.

the worst graphics/region was ORAS imo. original RSE was such a vibrant and unique style and ORAS just stripped the life out of it
(it was also significantly slower-running and easier than original RSE too. let trainers have more than 1/2 pokemon goddamnit!)

Actually, random battles being taken away might be a good thing. With Sun/Moon, one problem with random battles were the constant calling for help, a problem that was made even worse when most of the new Pokemon were slow. The SOS encounter system was nerfed in USUM, though it doesn't change the fact most of the new Pokemon were fairly slow. Having so many slow Pokemon means it's hard to run from wild battles because your ability to run from a battle is based on speed (faster Pokemon give you a better chance of running away).

Yeah this was an issue with S&M as well. Pretty much every Gen 6/7 Pokemon game. XY was probably the most difficult and that's not saying much. I don't know if any of the three of them had a single trainer with more than four Pokemon, except maybe a guy with 6 Magikarp. And that includes Gym Leaders and the Elite Four! Most of the randoms only have one or two.

ORAS was a letdown of a remake in many ways. If they had patched the new Megas and other things into XY, I would have used XY for competitive battling. Character customization being the largest reason, but also easier access to money, TMs (no randomness involved), and an easier time getting Pokemon to level 50 (all ORAS has is one-a-day Blissey Bases, created to alleviate that problem).

The problem is the wasted opportunity of a proper gen 1 remake
Say goodbye to Kanto because it's unlikely we will come back to it in the next 10 years, so your latest memory from it will be this garbage

Good to know a legit game is still coming relatively soon instead of being put off so nostalgia pandering can take center stage even more. I'm less aggravated by nostalgia pandering when it's not overshadowing everything else. Still not sure I'll bother with this Pokemon Let's Go Pokemon Pikachu Let Eevee Go to the Polls thing though, Kanto is kind of a boring place so if the big selling point is "GUYS! KANTO!" that's not very enticing to me unless they're actually revamping it like crazy...which given that the point is nostalgia, they probably aren't.

Kanto should be relatively similar to before. The maps are clearly grid based again and some of the locations shown match locations in Kanto fairly closely.
