Asian as a race is just the term we use in North America to describe people who look a certain way (descended from East and Southeast Asia). If someone is from another part of Asia this doesn't cover, then we get more specific (Middle-Eastern, West Asian, Indian/South Asian, etc.)

Unfollowing is a passive response. I didn't call for his censure or removal from social media. I just didn't want to be associated with him or hear from him. I'm glad the matter was settled, even if it was almost a year down the line.

The reason for this and what makes us the "model minority" is that the majority of us don't complain when things don't go our way. Asians in general tend to be very introverted when it comes to problems. We have a very collectivist point of view and any signs of weakness are not only a disgrace to you but your family as well. We don't want to get into unnecessary trouble, just do what you're told and bootstrap your way out from it. If you have a problem you keep it to yourself. So while this does has benefits it also causes a lot of problems like not being taken seriously when it comes to social justice issues towards Asians. Not to mention south east asians (who tend to be lower on the income level) get over represented by east asians (who tend to be on the higher income level) which get affected by policies like AA.

Asians tend to say discrimination doesn't affect them and some even blame other minorities for it while claiming to be perfectly happy but then they cry for representation "like the black people get" even though they're the ones joining in throwing rocks at black complaints and not ever speaking up about their own issues. Unless it's to complain about some inch of progress for another minority group, then they suddenly have a voice kind of like this topic.

If you use the same misinterpretations of statistics that are used to invent the wage gaps for women or (most) minority races, by that measure, Asians are literally the most successful race - even more so than whites.

You won't hear liberals bring this up often, because they still have that inkling of "these people aren't the same as me, I can't really treat them as equal" that they have with all other races, but they do consider it good enough reason to not push for special treatment of Asians like they do with other minority races.
