Yeah
But there's also the nuance of re-appropriating the word as a term of endearment

But there's no question it's always derogatory
especially when it's not from a black person's mouth imo

(but don't take my word for it i don't get to decide these things; that's kinda the point and CERTAIN people should get that through their skulls)

I do the same. Also when quoting black comedians, too.

I was actually hanging out with my "second family" (like seriously, I get invited to family reunions and everything, where I'm literally the only white person there and nobody gives a shit) one time and one of them mentioned Katt Williams. When I said I thought he was hilarious they didn't believe I even knew who he was, so I started quoting a bit from his Pimp Chronicles. But I didn't say the N-word, and just skipped over them. They were all laughing their asses off, but Desiree just looked at me and said "Alright, fair enough, I'm impressed. But next time just say the word. It actually sounds weirder when you don't. Besides, you're black anyway."

For the record, I'm a pasty white guy. It's just kind of become a running joke between us that I fit in so well with their family, and all the black people they know love me, that whenever someone makes a joke about "white people" I will make a mock-offended expression and they'll just go "oh come on, you know you're not really white." XD

Right. You have no personal authority over the intent of words you personally use. That is left solely to the people who listen to them. So, If for instance I say "Good morning to my wife" and she decides that my intention in saying good morning to her always means I cheated on her and am leaving her, she's correct. I don't get to decide she was wrong about that.

My white friends use that word as a greeting with one another, or as to say thank you (my ___).

We were out and a friend said it within earshot of these black dudes we were playing craps with and they did not seem to mind (unless they just kept it to themselves). They continued giving us pointers and talking with us.

I find that if you leave the internet and enter the real world, people are much cooler about things. Unless he just got lucky in this case.

I'm from the hoods of NYC, so nobody gives 2 fucks when I say it in everyday language and straight up to black people. Even had a black guy in Boston I was rooming with tell me "you sound like you're from the hood, so you get a pass" when I brought the subject up.

Clear however is from Long Island and white. He'd probably get punched lol. For a white person to get that pass, you pretty much have to be like Eminem and extremely hood, which is actually not rare.

What an ignorant comment. Anyone empowering that word, by making it so forbidden, is a bloody moron. It's a word. Sure, it can be used in a derogatory manner. 90% of the time it's not. Stop making it an issue when it clearly isn't. Stop finding things to be mad about. I wish everybody would just shut up about this whole thing. Find something important to care about. Not someone who is clearly not a racist using some forbidden word, because people choose to see it as racist. Language must evolve, if we keep letting the N word be about a racist past, then we will remain in that racist past until we die.

None of that's a white persons job to decided

The word is still racist, just because it has a different meaning in certain sub cultures and context doesn't mean you get to decide you're apart of that sub culture.

Is it a black persons'?
Who decides these things? How do you even know if I'm white? That's the worst kind of argument.
There's no point holding on to this resentment. Let culture evolve past racism, stop focusing on these dumb issues of language. There are very important issues at hand about the way we see and act toward black people that need to be addressed, and these non-issues turn the cause into a joke.

2. Its pretty easy to tell tbh

3. So your saying letting white peoples and other non black PoC use the N word indiscriminately, should be the next move ending racism and not ending the racial biases still common today....
