I can picture such a thing, but....

... who's got time for that?

It doesn't take that much time to set up 4 monitors. What you even need 4 monitors for is beyond me but I'm a simple man with simple needs.

All I know is the poll is yet another poorly constructed with needless"reasons" added making them mutually exclusive. I technically use three but it has nothing to do with wide screen. I rarely use all three at the same time and one is a TV. It is an awful poll sadly.

People really need to avoid putting extra thoughts into the options that are too specific out that go off on a tangent.

usually mine only just start off like monitoring, email, main code window, and internet (from left to right).

but there's still other things needed as the day goes on: program being tested, secondary code window, call stack/stack trace, debug output, performance or memory profiling results, SQL server, MySQL workbench, netbeans, remoting windows, windows explorer/command line windows, etc.etc.

basically, the more monitors the better. even the difference between 3 and 4 is painfully noticeable when you don't have that 4th screen to place things.

I don't even understand people who use monitors larger than 24". When you're at a computer, you're sitting pretty damn close. And then there's the issue of desk space. And when you add more monitors... I just don't get it.

Kinda need it for graphical work, though.

I don't think I could create a real world scenario where I'd need more than 3, especially now that you can get 1440p/4k monitors.

Someone at work has four monitors. They're set vertically, so it's like really tall, but as wide as two monitors.

Sahuagin, it's not like you need to look at all those things at the same time... right? Sounds pretty intense anyway. Is that your work setup or you do all that at home too?

For work I can understand several monitors, but I topped out at three at my last job. I have two at home. It's nice if you're constantly referencing something or working back and forth between windows, so you don't have to keep clicking the taskbar for the window you want to see.

I have two monitors on my desk and then I mount two in my washroom so I can keep up on shit while I take a dump.

that's work. at home I have only 2 right now, but would prefer at least 3. at home (and when not working) it's at most some combination of email, internet, game, and video. 2 is pretty limiting. 3 enables email, video, and game all at once, which is nice. it is hard to think of a use for a fourth monitor without working.

Now, there's an intersting argument for really HUGE monitors, and less of them.
But if I was going insane...

One larger, high quality, max resolution monitor for the center, with it's own primary gfx card.
Then three, smaller ones, one above, and one to each side, one step down in quality.

Probably never go further then 3 through. 2 is where I stand now, and I don't want to go back to just one, ever.
