I have trouble thinking of many. We're probably what, a few years away from next gen probably tops? There still seems to just be mostly last gen and previous franchises getting sequels, remakes, remasters, etc.
Even games like God of War that could've been a new IP if they wanted, just branded itself as GoW as a sort of sequel sort of reboot.

Even a company like Naughty Dog who's always produced a new franchise for each gen from Crash to Jak & Daxter to Uncharted. All we've gotten is 2 Uncharted games and an upcoming TLoU2 which will probably end up remastered for PS5 at this rate. Maybe you could argue TLoU was such on the tail end of last gen that it's this gen, but it's still last gen, and as nice as Uncharted was, it really could've been left at 3 with no real difference being made.

Then multiplatform games like Assassin's Creed released 3 great games in 3 years, this gen we got Watch Dogs, which technically started last gen too, and Watch Dogs 2. Then a bunch of Tom Clancy titles and such.
Valve has done nothing, Rockstar is just.milking GTA and doing RDR2.
Even exclusives like Knack or Sea of Thieves came and went because they were generic, boring garbage.

Not much use mentioning Nintendo because milking franchises is their bread and butter for decades.

Super Mega Baseball is about to become a major game franchise.

This signature only exists because my post would be eccentric without it.

Wasn't that a PS3 game? Not too familiar with it but I think I saw it on the store.

That's a good one, and nice Dunkey reference, but it hasn't really spawned a franchise this gen in the traditional sense. Like how Assassin's Creed did last gen for example. They're treating the game as a service they continually update and add to with no projected sequel date or anything
With it's success, if they do another one, I wouldn't be surprised if it was next gen.

Unless there's some OW2 rumors I'm missing.

Plus it's Blizzard. Then make games as a platform then just support them. Look how long WoW's gone on. I wouldn't be surprised if we never got OW2 and just a next gen port with continued support.

Horizon isn't a franchise yet, but I feel it's only a matter of time.

Fortnite unfortunately
Rainbow Six Siege is essentially a whole new entry in the series too

Yeah I'm sure that'll happen.

But it's sad that we're 5 years in and nobody has mentioned a legitimate current gen franchise that actively is already an actual franchise

Not really enough time for anything started this gen to become a franchise yet. I thought of Watch Dogs, but that was a last gen title. Project Cars actually might be a rare example of one here. The Crew, also

Here are games that I think we're bound to see sequels to, though:
Cuphead
Steep (it didn't sell well, but Ubisoft supported it strongly with DLC and updates)
Overwatch maybe?

In the same amount of time we had 3 Uncharted games for PS3 that all pushed the technical limits of that gen as well as being built on a brand new engine from scratch.
Same thing for the number of AC games and such. Plus devs get some dev time before the new platforms launch a year or two in advanced with estimated specs, or in the case of companies line Naughty Dog, they help pick the specs to begin with.

But yeah I can see a Cuphead sequel.
Don't know anything about Steep.
Don't see Overwatch getting a sequel, definitely not this gen if ever , it's Blizzard, they'll just support it for the next decade and port it.

Oh yeah, forget the Wii U was technically the start of current gen lol.

Destiny

Started last gen. I actually never touched the first on current gen, I got it on PS3 because that's what I had at the time.

Uh, no, that's not how it works. Its initial release date across all platforms was September 2014, which was during the current gen.

It's like saying THPS3 and THPS4 weren't part of the PS2 generation because they also released on PS1.
